Help single mum Gabbie see her daughter grow up

In February 2017, Gabbie was diagnosed with Stage 3 colorectal and liver cancer. While this news is obviously devastating, Gabbie’s main concern is for her beautiful two-year-old daughter, Evie.

Gabbie’s doctors have recommended an initial treatment of 6 rounds of chemotherapy (and possibly more after that). This treatment will give Gabbie a fighting chance, but it may not be enough for Gabbie to beat cancer. Even with chemo extending her life, Gabbie’s doctors indicate that she may only have around five more years to live and be a mum to Evie.

Gabbie always dreamed of being a mother, but she had to overcome a number of challenges to realise her dream. She was overjoyed when she discovered in August 2015 that she was finally pregnant. Her beautiful daughter, Evie, was born on 1 May 2015. The two years since Evie was born have been the happiest of Gabbie’s life – filled with smiles, joy and an incredible amount of love.

Those years have also been challenging – as a single Mum, it’s been tough for Gabbie to juggle the day-to-day demands being a mother with working to pay off a mortgage and build a future for her daughter. Gabbie has been working five days a week; on three of those days, she commutes to Sydney from her home in Newcastle – a four-hour round trip. While this schedule would be exhausting for anyone, it’s impossible for someone battling cancer to sustain – especially while undergoing chemotherapy.

Gabbie has had excellent support and understanding from her employer EA, however the financial burden of missing work, combined with the cost of treatments, are creating extra stress at a time when Gabbie is fighting for her life.

Gabbie has given so much to her family and friends, and now it’s time for us to give back. We’re raising funds to assist Gabbie with her treatment and help her enjoy the precious time she has with Evie. Funds will go toward:
· Living expenses while Gabbie is not able to work

· Childcare for Evie when Gabbie is having treatment or too sick to care for her on her own; and

· Covering the costs of some expensive treatments some of which are not yet freely available in Australia

Gabbie and Evie are so grateful for any contribution you can help with. Thank you so very much!
