Help Sheldon Fight Leukemia
Donation protected
I'm writing this campaign on behalf of the Vitorino family in hopes that we can raise funds to support Sheldon and his family during this difficult time. On September 18, Sheldon was taken to the Cambridge Memorial Hospital due to his symptoms such as bruising, paleness, and extreme fatigue. At the hospital, they ran many tests and Sheldon was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) at the young age of 15. On Monday night, he was taken to McMaster Children's Hospital where he will be staying for the next month along with his mother right by his side. Since arriving at McMaster, he's had many red blood and platelet transfusions with more to be expected. He has also had a bone marrow biopsy, a lumbar puncture as well as a portocath surgically inserted Wednesday night. On Thursday, Sheldon began chemotherapy and his treatment plan will take 3 years and 1 month.
Despite the heart-breaking news, Sheldon has remained nothing but positive. Sheldon has amazing friends and family who are supporting him through this time, and I am hoping that by starting this campaign we can offer support to his family during his road to recovery. Sheldon is the youngest out of 5 children, having 3 sisters - Savannah, Sierra, and Salicia as well as an older brother, Jonathan. Unfortunately, with so much time to be taken off work, also comes a loss of income. All their time and attention will go towards Sheldon during this time, and the last thing I want is for them to have to worry about financial expenses on top of his diagnosis. Sheldon's mother, Jolene, has been off work and at the hospital since Sheldon was first diagnosed while his father, John, commutes between Cambridge and Hamilton everyday. His father also commutes back and forth from Brantford as he is still required to work half-days to gain income while his mother has taken a full leave. All funds raised will go to his family to help them with their expenses such as hospital parking, travel costs, compensation for time taken off work as they have financial obligations as well as a family to provide for, and any other costs. Sheldon is an amazing young man, who has shown extreme strength through this all. Any donations will be immensely appreciated and I would like to thank you all in advance for helping me support the Vitorino family while Sheldon battles Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.
