Help sharon get lifesaving cancer treatment

My name is Nicola and I am fundraising to raise money for lifesaving treatment for my sister and best friend Sharon.

Sharon was diagnosed with stage 2b  ovarian cancer in 2017. After surgery to remove the tumor and a full hysterectomy Sharon was given the all clear. The doctors informed Sharon that her type of Ovarian Cancer rarely returns and surgery is the only treatment for it which we thought was good news.

In 2018 Sharon noticed a lump on her scar line and after a visit to her GP he said he suspected a small hernia.  At her yearly review she discussed this with her gynecologist which he dismissed, he couldn't feel anything. Sharon was given the all clear. Great news for the Family.

In 2019 Sharon had more lumps on her scar line and a larger lump in her pelvis. The pains she had suffered in 2017 had reoccurred. At her yearly review she brought all this to the attention of her gynecologist which he himself  pointed out the larger lump on the scan to Sharon telling her that it was lifting the muscle. Again Sharon was given the all clear and told that the lumps she had was scar tissue and her pains was most probably IBS.

Sharon unfortunately didn't receive her yearly review in 2020 because of the covid situation. The pains that Sharon was experiencing was exactly what she suffered in 2017 only this time they were intensifying. It was heartbreaking to watch her in so much pain. Every time she went to the doctors she was given medication for IBS but it was of no use.  Eventually in Dec 2020  her GP decided to refer her back to the hospital which had to be done as a new patient to get her an appointment.

February 2021 Sharon eventually got her appointment and a CT scan.  When she went for her results she was in no way prepared for the news she was about to receive. Sharon was given the devasting news that her cancer now stage 4 and incurable had returned. The lumps that she had pointed out in 2018 was actually  tumours on her abdominal wall. She has 2 large tumours in her pelvis which was what the doctor had previously seen on the scan and dismissed. She has also small tumours on her liver. Her right kidney is enlarged and is not functioning correctly because of the 2 large tumours in her pelvis area as they are putting the kidney under alot of pressure.

Sharon was referred to Belfast for treatment. Her oncologist discussed with Sharon and myself her treatment plan, the only option they can offer her is palliative chemotherapy which consists of 6 rounds of chemo every 3/4 weeks.  After her 3rd round she will then have a CT scan to see if any shrinkage if not it will be stopped and no other treatment is available.  Surgery has been ruled out this time as she has too much disease in her body.

We now feel our only option is to seek alternative treatments which are not available on the NHS. Royal Marsden in London have alot more to offer and are more experienced in Sharon's type of cancer.

Sharon's ovarian cancer is a rare cancer called Granulosa Cell Tumour which is slow progressing. If Sharon had of been investigated properly back in 2018/19 the outcome would have been very different today. The tumours would not have been as large and it maybe wouldn't have spread as far as her liver. We as a family feel Sharon has been let down greatly.  Sharon has 2 other sisters as well as myself we are all very close and are trying everything to keep her  with us as long as possible.
God bless, Nicola. ❤️
