Help Set Up A Dedicated Pro-EU Social Media Team!

Since the early 90s, the UK gutter press have been systematic in their “othering” of the EU, with one disgraceful goal: to make the good people of the UK believe that the EU is their enemy.

This was problematic, but thankfully the vast majority of normal people didn’t really care about the EU. Other issues, such as health, education, transport and the environment took precedent.

But then social media came along.

The forces hell-bent on destroying the UK (if not the entire Western World order), weaponised the undercurrent of Eurosceptism carefully nurtured by the aforementioned tabloids by swamping social media with memes, videos and misleading adverts. This turned some grumbling discontent into a tsunami of hatred and spite towards the EU.

Anyone pointing out the pitfalls of leaving the biggest and most successful trade bloc in the world or questioning the wisdom of turning our 27 trading partners into our 27 closest trading rivals, was branded “Project Fear”.

We can march, we can set up street stalls, we can door-knock, we’ve got hundreds of thousands of activists, and that's great. But it in the realm of social media, we’re still miles behind.

Which is why Pro-EU activists Graham Hughes (#3BlokesInAPub), Mike Galsworthy (Scientists for EU) and Paul Somerville (Regional Leader, OFOC) are setting up #ProjectHope. 

·        To ensure that remaining part of the EU becomes synonymous with “#ProjectHope”

·        To create curated Pro-EU content for various major social media platforms - memes, videos, gifs etc.

·        To monitor and directly respond to threats and lies published by the other side

·        To work with our grass-roots teams to get our Pro-EU message out all over social media in the most cost-effective way possible

·        To provide free social media resources for Pro-EU campaigners (such as "Brexplainer" videos)

·        To get the younger generation engaged like never before

The Leave campaigns have been all over the social media since 2015, with fake news farms and Twitter bots pumping out false narratives and anti-EU propaganda. But we have something they do not: over a million active grassroots campaigners ready and willing to spread positive Pro-EU content to every corner of the internet.

We don’t need to spend a fortune on Facebook advertising when we are getting 100k+ shares. We don’t have to advertise on YouTube when our videos are getting hundreds of thousands of views. There are over 160 Pro-EU groups on Facebook alone. We need to be making the most of this fabulous resource.

Using this crowdfunder, we hope to have enough money to pay for two teams for a minimum of 6 months of full time slog on this: a Social Media Support Unit, run by Mike, and a Content Creation and Comms Unit, run by Graham and Paul. Everything we create together will be informed, responsive, factual and (most importantly) look awesome!

We'll be inviting all of the high profile grassroots campaigners to get involved, appear in videos, and help spread the word. Every day, you'll see where your kind donations have gone. We're not going to waste a penny.

We will battle through NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS with Brexit, whether that's fighting for a People's Vote, campaigning to Remain... or fighting to get back in.

OUR RELATIONSHIP TO THE PROJECT

We will be charged with getting #ProjectHope up and running and ensuring its continuation for a minimum of 6 months

HOW THE FUNDS WILL BE SPENT

We will be setting up two dedicated teams: a Social Media Support Unit (SMSU) based in London, and a  Content Creation and Comms Unit (CCCU) based in the North-East. The funds will cover wages, rent and expenses for 6 months on a strictly not-for-profit basis.

FUND WITHDRAWAL PLAN

All money received from this GoFundMe campaign will be paid directly into the bank account of Eärendil's Star Ltd (Company No 11816403), a not-for-profit limited company set up and run by Graham Hughes for the exclusive purpose of managing the funding of the SMSU and the CCCU.

The GoFundMe money will be ringfenced to ensure we do not run out of funding before the end of the initial 6 month period, with an agreed 45%-55% split between the SMSU and the CCCU respectively.
