Help Send Bristol to Jr. Iditarod 2023

Bristol Rayne Huffman is a 15-year-old high school student living in Kotzebue, Alaska. She moved to Kotzebue at age 11 and fell in love with everything this region offers: fishing, hunting, trapping, kayaking, swimming and MUSHING DOGS! She was first introduced to dog mushing during the 2019 Kobuk 440 Sled Dog Race in Kotzebue. Bristol spent time out on the ice with the dogs as the teams crossed the finish line. She volunteered to help the race committee and met several top mushers who allowed her to feed the dogs snacks and remove booties and harnesses.

After this, Bristol offered to help a local musher with his sled dog kennel, and it didn't take long for her to realize her passion. She has faithfully worked and trained with Dempsey Wood's Sr. for over two years and has embraced every aspect of the daily routine. The physically demanding tasks, long hours of training and frigid arctic weather have become a lifestyle for her, and to say she loves it would be an understatement! Caring for, training and mushing these dogs is her passion.

Bristol has proven herself to be a dedicated and hardworking young musher. Last year she competed in three races, including the Jr. Iditarod, and her goal is to return to Anchorage for the 2023 Jr. Iditarod next February. The race is for mushers aged 14 to 17 and covers approximately 150 miles of primarily arctic wilderness. It's held outside Anchorage, Alaska, located over 500 miles south of our hometown of Kotzebue, Alaska.

For Bristol to reach her goal, it will take a lot of support from friends and sponsors to help fund the trip to Anchorage. A donation of any amount will be greatly appreciated and used exclusively for the expenses related to mushing equipment, the care of the dogs, and the race, including flying Bristol and her team of ten dogs to Anchorage.
