Scroggie's, created by chef David Scroggins is ready to "Bring a little Southern comfort" to Topeka! With over 20 years of experience in the kitchen, our chef has perfected the flavors of your favorite Southern food dishes. From Jambalaya and Gumbo to a Scroggie's special, fried collard rolls, our menu will have your taste buds wanting more!

David is a double amputee and wheelchair-bound. However, he isn't letting that obstacle stop him from pursuing his dream. We need your help to fund a custom wheelchair-accessible food trailer to allow David to serve you his best creations! Find out other ways you can help on our website, www.scroggies.org.

More about David:

As a Topeka native, David Scroggins (known by most as ‘Scroggie’), has always had a love for cooking and his community. Music was his first love and many can attest to the joy his voice has brought to this world through his performances and at church. Not far behind though, is his love for creating food for his friends and family to enjoy with his dream of one day owning his own restaurant. Working as a chef, he knew this was what he wanted to do.

In 2016, due to diabetic complications, David had a stroke that was followed by kidney failure. The result of this was the loss of his vision in both eyes all in the same year. In 2019, David received the gift of a kidney which unfortunately failed. In 2020, he then lost both of his legs due to another medical complication. What he didn’t do, was let any of this stop him from dreaming of his goal.

While he faces many struggles, his perseverance and love for being in the kitchen has not changed. He continues to create food dishes that are creative and come from his heart. When asked why he loves food and cooking he replied “If you think of cooking as an art form, it is the only one out there that uses all five of your senses, the only one. Like all art, it is all suggestive, like a piece from a classical painter to a cat poster in a college dorm. Food has all the same, from a classic, favorite French dish to a burrito filled with every late-night form imaginable.” He also added that “food is the best way to bring people together, strike up a conversation, and spark fantastic moments of nostalgia.”
