Help Scot Get Back On His Feet!

On Friday December 13th, 2019, Lori Uranich McQuilkin got a call you hope never to receive. Lori’s husband Scot suffered a catastrophic fall resulting in a severe spinal cord injury. Scot was being flown by helicopter to St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois and she and their daughter Nina were to meet him there. When they arrived at the hospital, Scot was already in surgery to fuse and decompress his spine followed by a second surgery to repair his collar bone. 11 days later, he was transferred to Shirley Ryan Ability Lab in Chicago to begin intensive rehabilitation.
Scot has approached his rehabilitation like he does everything else, with full on determination and effort to do everything he can to recover. From day 1, his doctors, nurses and treatment team have all been impressed with his work ethic and attitude. He is currently paralyzed from the chest down but is already regaining sensation and feeling as he begins his healing and treatment.
The road to recovery is a long one. The associated costs can be astronomical, many of which are not covered by insurance. Some of these expenses include house renovations for wheelchair accessibility, vehicle modification for hand control driving, a specialized bed and many other medical and rehabilitation costs. All at a time when your overwhelming concern is for your loved one.
Scot is our brother-in-law and a great guy. One of the nicest you’ll ever meet. He would do anything for you and spends a lot of his time helping others. In this day and age, he is the only guy we know who regularly stops to help stranded motorists. He treats his friends like family.
