Pilsen Business Owner & Family Needs Our Help!

Donation protected
Ericka has worked tirelessly to create a salon that serves the community. Now, she needs YOUR help. No donation is too small! Please contact us if you want to donate furniture or salon supplies.

During the Pandemic, Ericka had to close her salon and then became very sick with COVID-19. While Ericka wasn't able to work, she couldn't afford to keep paying bills like insurance. In September of last year, a fire broke out in the building. Ericka lost everything. Shortly after that, Ericka's HOUSE CAUGHT FIRE! Leaving Ericka and her children with nowhere to live.

Ericka Reyna Bravo immigrated to the United States from Mexico in 1990. Soon after, Ericka set up shop on 18th street in the Pilsen neighborhood in Chicago.

Vanessa's Unisex Salon has since been a staple amongst the community, offering $8-$12 haircuts. In a neighborhood that has changed rapidly, the salon has been consistent in providing affordability for families who are trying to make ends meet.

This January, Vanessa's Unisex Salon re-opened in Pilsen at 1842 S. Blue Island Ave. Since losing her shop, she has lost customers and visibility in the neighborhood. "We are doing our best to work with what we were able to salvage from the fire," Ericka Reyna Bravo, the owner of Vanessa's Unisex Salon. "The grand opening did not attract many people. I find it hard to ask for help when I see so many others struggling."
