Help Ryland Fight Leukemia

Please Help Ryland Beat Leukemia

Ryland is a one-year old, happy little boy who was diagnosed with two types of Leukemia, ALL (Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia) and AML (Acute Myeloid Leukemia) in March of 2020. He has endured so much in his young life. He has been receiving heavy doses of chemotherapy to kill the leukemia cells so that he can receive a bone marrow transplant. Please help his parents so they can focus their attention on his health and help this sweet baby fight this terrible disease.

A few weeks ago, his grandmother, Deb, who is my cousin, reached out to me desperate, for any help she could get for her grandson and his parents. Remy and Tyler, Ryland’s parents, need financial help. Ryland is finally in remission and will be ready in 4 weeks to receive a bone marrow transplant. The family must move to San Francisco so Ryland can receive his treatment at UCSF. They must live within 20 minutes of the hospital and are expected to live there for 6 to 8 months.  They have a $ 1000.00 to spend on rent monthly, however, most apartments in San Francisco rent for $2500 to $4000 a month. The rents are extremely expensive in San Francisco and Covid 19 has complicated Tyler’s ability to find steady work. He was honorably discharged from the military after the baby was diagnosed with cancer. Remy is unable to work because of Ryland’s complicated treatment schedule. Another obstacle to the couple obtaining affordable housing is Ryland’s immune system. Because of chemo, Ryland has a condition called Neutropenia. This means that his white blood cell count is very low which affects his immune system, therefore, Ryland is at a very high risk of not only catching a serious infection, but it also lowers his ability to fight infection. This makes communal living an extremely dangerous option.

I was close to Remy’s grandparents, my Aunt Lil and Uncle Red, and her mother, Deb when I was younger. Unfortunately, their side of the family has been plagued with cancer. Deb, Remy’s mother, has lost three brothers to cancer and her mother died of breast cancer when Deb was in her 20’s. This family has suffered so much loss, and now Deb’s grandbaby has not one but two types of leukemia. Deb has had her share of hardships; she just survived the Camp Fire in 2017 that completed destroyed the town of Paradise where she lives.

It would mean so much to me to be able to help this young family. My Uncle Red and Aunt Lil meant so much to me when I was a kid and they were so good to my father when he was young. When he was in high school, my Uncle Red gave him a job with his construction company every summer and my Aunt Lil took him shopping every year for school clothes.

They were great people who were always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need, especially family. I want to pay in forward in honor of my Aunt Lil and Uncle Red.

Please help Ryland, Remy, and Tyler. Any amount will help and would be greatly appreciated. If you are not in the position to help, please pass on their information to your friends or family. Thank you.
