Help RPD Liza (MOD) with her emergency operation

The NFRSA is a charity that supports  retired dogs and horses from the police, fire, prison, border force, & NCA services by helping with medical and veterinary bills, which inevitably occur as they get older.

When their careers end, the financial support they have enjoyed whilst working also comes to an end.

Unfortunately, meaningful insurance is almost impossible to obtain due to their age and training so the NFRSA is there to help to ensure these wonderful animals can stay where they belong.

Last week RPD Liza was taken ill and deteriorated rapidly over the course of the week. Today she had to undergo specialist lifesaving surgery for a blocked gallbladder, which had to be removed.

Liza has now developed pancreatitis and is still seriously ill, her treatment is ongoing, and we  pray she will survive.

Here is Liza’s story:

Liza, a retired police dog from the Ministry of Defence Police, boasts a remarkable career marked by resilience, transformation, and unwavering loyalty.

Under the steadfast guidance of her handlers, Simon and Claire, Liza evolved from a spirited young pup with a penchant for mischief into a beloved icon of compassion and service.

From her early days, Liza displayed an innate drive, earning a reputation for her boundless energy and determination. Initially known for her enthusiastic bite reflex, Liza quickly matured into a canine ambassador of goodwill, touching countless lives with her gentle demeanour and unwavering devotion.

As a seasoned tracker, Liza's skills were unmatched, her keen nose leading the charge in locating individuals with precision and efficiency.

Yet, what truly set Liza apart was her remarkable ability to apprehend suspects without a hint of hostility, embodying the essence of both protector and friend.

In retirement, Liza embraced a newfound love for life's simple pleasures. No longer bound by duty, she revelled in cuddles, basked in the warmth of the sun, and delighted in the thrill of chasing squirrels and playing with her cherished ball.

Though her days of active service were behind her, Liza's spirit remained indomitable, a beacon of hope and inspiration to all who knew her.

Now at the age of eight and a half, Liza faces the biggest challenge of her life with her customary courage and grace, undergoing surgery to combat illness, her vets have all described her a ‘lovely girl, showing kindness and patience throughout.’

Yet, her resilience knows no bounds, and those who have been touched by her boundless spirit remain hopeful for her recovery.

Liza's legacy will endure as a testament to the transformative power of love and companionship.

As she prepares for her surgery with a twinkle in her eye and a nose for mischief, we're confident in her resilience and the skilled hands of her caregivers.

Anticipation fills the air for the days ahead, where Liza will undoubtedly enjoy more leisurely strolls, perhaps even managing to startle a few unsuspecting squirrels along the way.

With her unique blend of charm and determination, Liza exemplifies the joy of living in the moment, reminding us to find humour and happiness in even the simplest of pleasures.

So here's to Liza, our courageous canine companion, whose unwavering spirit continues to inspire us all.

We very much hope you will join us in supporting Liza and showing her how much she is loved.

She is an incredibly special lady and your generosity will enable us at the NFRSA to ensure her medical bills are paid and her devoted Mum and Dad can simply concentrate on getting their precious girl better.

Whatever you can spare will help - and we are truly grateful for that.

Please also share this page with your friends, the bills are extremely high and we hope that together, we can take care of every single penny.

Thank you so much.

Liza - get well soon dear girl, you have this - and we have you. X
