Raise funds for college tuition

Hi Everyone,

My name is Kim and I am fundraising to help a family I met in Tanzania afford their son’s college tuition. Back in 2007, my friend and colleague Jenn and I took some students from Sinclair Secondary School to Tanzania to help build a school for a local community outside of Moshi. We were graciously hosted by the International School Moshi (ISM). Our students fundraised to be able to help with the construction of the school and then also contributed some sweat equity into the project as well. To be honest, compared to the community members, our contributions were minimal. One of the community members who connected with our group was Rose. Rose has five children and a loving husband and she worked so diligently to bring this school to her community. They were so appreciative of our very meagre help and I remember her later telling me that it had been a lifeline for their community. And I know for the students and staff who got the opportunity to help, the experience was life changing. Rose and I have stayed in touch over the years sharing stories of our families and their schooling. Just recently Rose shared with me that due to the pandemic, their family has been hit quite hard financially and their eldest son had to leave the agriculture college he was attending. The new term is starting and the cost for him to attend a full year of college plus room and board is just under 1500.00 Canadian. I am reaching out to family, friends, Sinclair colleagues and anyone who believes that education is the way to affect real change in the world to give what you are able to support this wonderful family in need. The money I raise will go directly to the college and if there is any excess, it will be used to support Rose’s other children who will be going on to post secondary school in the near future.
