Help Rifga Fight Her Battle Against Cancer

In August of 2020, Rifga Mohamed was diagnosed with stage three, Rhabdomyosarcoma, which is a rare type of cancer that forms in soft tissue— specifically the uterus in her case. Luckily Rifga’s cancer is treatable since she is so young being only 16 years old. The issue though is that she currently lives in Sudan and there is no treatment offered for this type of cancer there. This means that she would need to travel to the U.S. in order to receive treatment. There is a chance for her to receive treatment at Cincinnati’s Children Medical Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. It is imperative that she travels as soon as possible since her tumor has already begun to spread beyond her uterus. She has now gone through three surgeries, and the initial tumor in her uterus has been removed. Now, she is starting phase two of her journey which is chemotherapy and radiation which will hopefully slow the spread and tackle the remaining cancerous cells in her body.

These past five months have been difficult for both Rifga and her family. This has been a continuous battle for her to stay strong while receiving constant treatment through her chemotherapy two times per week. Rifga’s family has struggled to fund her treatment. Having four other children in the household to look after has made living expenses that much more difficult for Rifga’s parents. They have received money from friends and family in order for her to maintain her treatment. However, with her cancer spreading and more expensive treatments required, I thought it would be incredibly helpful if I created a GoFundMe to help manage their incoming expenses. Rifga’s parents, Jamal and Naila Mohamed, are currently supporting their family of 7, paying their housing expenses, and now their surging medical bills for their young daughter. This has put a strain on their financial situation and they will soon not be able to keep up with their expenses. Imagine being a parent and having to choose between providing food for your family or paying for your sick child’s medical procedure to save their life.

Anyone who knows the Mohamed family is aware of how kind and caring Rifga is. Despite everything she has been going through, she always finds a way to put a smile on her face and on the faces of others. She is such an amazing and bright young lady who deserves the world.
