Help restore our daughter Aliz’s beautiful face

We are in desperate need of your help to restore our daughter Aliz’s beautiful face.
Please allow us to share Aliz’s story and current condition.
Our names are Mariann and Tibor and, some nine years ago, we welcomed a beautiful baby daughter
into our family. Since that very moment, Aliz has been nothing but a blessing; full of life, eager to
please and easy to love.
In 2017, when Aliz was just 4 1/2 years old, she was diagnosed with ALL leukemia. As you can
imagine, this diagnois changed our world. Aliz went through a year of intense chemotherapy, which
she underwent heroically. After a trying year of therapy, we thought she had overcome the disease
and this nightmare would finally be behind us. Sadly, we were wrong.
At the end of 2019, her illness returned. Consequently, her doctor’s prescribed a much more
aggressive chemotherapy treatment. Her battle continued. We knew that our sweet little girl would
require a bone marrow transplant.
As a result of the intense treatment,Aliz’s immune system was severely compromised. She simply
could not fight off the weakest of infections. After 3 weeks of cytopenia (a reduction in blood cells),
she caught a very severe fungal infection called mucormycosis, which started from her nose. There
was a delay in diagnosing it and, as a consequence, the infection started to spread to her brain and
lungs.
A new chapter began in our fight for our daughter’s life. The infection had to be defeated before she
could receive a bone marrow transplant.
After 2 weeks of fighting for her life in the intensive care, Aliz underwent a 10-month special
antifungal treatment. During this time, she was constantly receiving a biological treatment for her
leukemia because she could not receive chemotherapy given her condition. Unfortunately, due to
the infection, her nose and hard palate died. True to her fighting spirit, Aliz defeated the infection in
ten months. Thanks to Aliz’s indomitable will to live and the excellent doctors in the Stem Cell
Transplant Department, the bone marrow transplant was able to take place. Thanks be to God, the
transplant was successful and, most importantly, it has been working well ever since.
Aliz has every chance to live a normal, full, happy life after leukemia – to have a childhood, to be a
teenager and a healthy adult, to one day get married and have a child of her own. She has every
chance.
Because of the severe infection to her face, however, she has lost her nose along with part of her
palate and upper jaw. The resulting facial deformity makes the possibility of a normal childhood
experience, a full and happy life, impossible for Aliz.
We have visited many hosptials, spoken with many doctors, but to no avail. No one was willing or
able to help us, until we met a very special person in Dr. Kongkrit Chaiyasate, and his team, at Royal
Oak Beaumont Hospital. Dr. Chaiyasate is truly a special and gifited surgeon. Furthermore, he’s a
humanitarian. He has a will and calling to help his patients and he wants to restore Aliz’s face. He
wants Aliz to live a full and happy life. He wants for Aliz what he wants for all of his patients – a
chance to experience all the wonders life has to offer.
This is the part of the story that involves you. We started this GoFundMe to help pay for the hospital
costs because our reserves have been exhausted.
