Jade Baxter, 25 years old born and raised in the Nlaka’pamux Nation was living in the Sitko apartments in Lytton, BC and lost nearly everything in the devastating fire that destroyed the community.
Jade is a emerging filmmaker who’s works have shown as festivals such as Imagine Native, DOXA, Victoria Film Festival, and RIDM. She was the directing mentee on The Body Remembers When The World Broke Open and has participated in the extended Indigenous film community since 2014. Alumnus of the ImagineNative Short Screenwriting Lab, Hot Docs Accelerator Lab, VIFF Catalyst Mentorship Program, and the Whistler Indigenous Filmmaker Fellowship.

On June 30th I was extremely fortunate to evacuate safely and was able to seek refugee on my reserve south of the Village of Lytton, Skuppah Indian Band, where since the day of the fire I have been doing my part to help our community run the Band Hall as a fire relief centre, donation hub and community space.
I am hoping to raise funds to help cover the costs of a computer, basic hardware, and lost audio and visual production gear.
Every single film I have made has been either about the Lytton area itself and has been filmed in the Nlaka’pamux Nation. I lost 90% of my filmmaking equipment in the fire, countless notebooks and the cherished place which has nurtured my artistic journey from the beginning of it all. I left my apartment with some of my ceremonial and sentimental items only, which I am fortunate for, many of my community did not even have time for that. I was and still am so proud to have Lytton and Skuppah as my home.
