Tribute to Doug Hastings - Help With Funeral Funds
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Madisen Miller. I’m an in-law of the Hastings Family. With permission from the Hastings family, I’d like to share some info on why this fund was created.
After some time of Doug feeling unwell he visited a local medical clinic in his small mountain town a couple hours north of Boise, Idaho. His blood work showed possible sepsis, and by September 10th, he was admitted to St. Luke’s Meridian Hospital with what turned out to be pneumonia. Within days Doug started to decline with complications with his heart and remaining kidney and was placed in the intensive care unit, where he was sedated, intubated, and given a cocktail of drugs to help organ function. In the late hours of September 16th, Doug declined dramatically and his nurse called his immediate family members to let them know he only had 12 to 24 hours remaining to live.
Despite the odds, and after many petitions to our Heavenly Father on his behalf, Doug stabilized for the following week. It was full of ups and downs with improvements followed by declines. However, despite the efforts of phenomenal doctors and nurses, Doug’s body could no longer keep up and began a steady decline. On September 24th his body began rejecting treatments and was at max life support.
Anyone that knows Doug, knew he was not a fan of hospitals and the Hastings felt that prolonging his stay was not something he would want. After many tears and prayers, they decided to move him off life support and put him on comfort-care so he could leave this world in peace.
Doug passed on Sept 24, 2020 at 5:19 pm, peacefully and quickly.
A glimpse into the Hastings family:

Doug is 62 and a business owner in his small mountain town. He loves his community and serves everyone at the drop of a hat. He has suffered any inconvenience to help someone, even if his own needs seem greater. He loves living in the mountain cabin he built himself, watching the wildlife on his property, and tinkering on mechanical and electronic projects. His wife, Rena, is the owner of the town’s quilt shop and hosts classes and loves teaching others how to sew and quilt (she was my teacher!) They are two of the most generous people I know—I have personally experienced their amazing support during some of my most trying times.
Doug’s business has taken hits in his absence and the medical bills will be significant. Both Doug and Rena are truly grateful for the prayers on their behalf. Any donation to this fund will be used for Doug’s medical bills, funeral costs and to prepare their cabin for the winter so that Rena continues to have a place to call home.
Any size donation is appreciated. But in the words of my friend, Bob, who just lost his beloved daughter: “No guilt trips, no playing on sympathies. Times are really hard right now for reasons that need no explanation. If you are fortunate enough to be able to help financially with this crisis, it is graciously appreciated. If all you can afford to send is your love, that is always sufficient, plenty, and more than enough, for it is that same currency in which (Doug) has shown his true wealth, in this world and in the next.”
No matter your position, we also ask if you can help share the Hastings story by sharing this GoFundMe with your friends and colleagues. God bless.
