On Tuesday night Remi's workshop, Coast to Coast Mechanical went up in flames after a freak electrical accident.
This business has been my brother's dream for a long time, and he and my dad took over the workshop at the end of last year. They have both poured their blood, sweat and tears into the business to build it up, to create a future.
If you've ever started a new business yourself, you'll understand how every dollar goes back into building and investing, and you don't tend to leave a lot in your personal savings.
We were incredibly lucky that noone was hurt, and yes, there is some level of business insurance to help with the damage. Unfortunately, these things take time and insurance companies have a schedule that doesn't necessarily line up with things like rent, groceries and bills.
Until the insurance companies (plural - because there are multiple parties involved here) have undertaken their investigations, my brother is unable to work or earn any money. There's a possibility for this to stretch into weeks and months. For anyone who knows Remi and his work ethic, this is devastating in itself.
A lot of people have been asking how they can help, so I'm starting this gofundme to help him get back on his feet personally - to help cover things like his rent, petrol, food, phone bills, payments that are due - so he can concentrate on rebuilding his business, sorting through the mess in the workshop, and helping his customers.
Every dollar counts.
