Who are we?

Reef Support was created by two ambitious students and coral reef fanatics Yohan Runhaar and Marcel Kempers in Delft, in June 2020.

Reef Support is:

- We are a team building software to accelerate the transition from data to decisions to protect our coral reefs and marine biodiversity.

-  an award-winning innovation (winner of the Nederlands prize and overall prize of the 2020 Copernicus Masters)

What we believe in

Oceans and coral reefs are the backbones of a multitude of ecosystems and human livelihood.

Unfortunately, we have already lost or severely damaged more than 50% of coral reefs and 85% of oyster beds worldwide. Studies estimate nearly all reefs will be at risk by 2050 unless action is taken now to reduce the threats. These alarming projections are increasingly becoming a major challenge in many parts of the world.

Our Mission

The mission of Reef Support iso enhance marine biodiversity and strengthen the blue economy with science and innovation

We build cutting-edge software that accelerates the transition from data-to-decisions to protect our oceans. Within this, the company has 3 core values that underlie each product:
1) Develop Agile & Robust Tools for the Blue Economy
2) Integrated use of Satellite Imagery and AI
3) Advocate for Participatory Science

Our 1st product, Reef.io, is a global online monitoring and predictive maintenance service that uses artificial intelligence and satellite imaging for coastal reef health and beach pollution prevention. We use satellite imagery along with onsite data to predict future trends of coral bleaching and other conditions that might affect marine ecosystems. 

Ultimately, our mission is to save the reefs.

Why we need you

With your help, we hope to expand our technology to as many potential ecosystems at risk by collaborating with non-profit organizations, which are dealing with coral restoration in their regions.
