Help Rebekah and Derek

Donation protected
The home of two wonderful people, my dear cousin Rebekah and her husband Derek, was broken into and wrecked. A lot was stolen, much of it irreplaceable. Please read Rebekah's story and donate what you can:

Mom and I got home from a Dr's appointment Tuesday to find the house had been broken into and devastated...

Among the many items stolen were our computer, my ipad, the purse I carried at our wedding, a bose speaker, my perfumes and cosmetics, Derek's passport and social security card, our phone chargers, every present from under our Christmas tree, and even our electric toothbrush!

Far more hurtful than those material losses was that he was able to take our small safe from a closet, which contained about $50,000 worth of family heirlooms, all sentimentally significant and irreplaceable watches and jewelry dating back over 200 years of Derek's family history of being ranchers and traders in Nevada. It included the last present Derek's mom gave him before she passed away when he was 14, a watch she had engraved for him.

Needless to say these are the losses that hurt the most and have opened up a lot of grief. They are irreplaceable. To the person who stole them, they're just melt value, but to us they are priceless memories.

The LAPD (who are helping in an ongoing investigation) said that because each item in the safe was so unique and identifiable, it is ever so slightly possible that we could find some of the pieces in pawn shops.  We plan to begin searching this weekend.  If we find them, because the pawn shops buy it "in good faith" that it's not stolen property, we will actually have to buy them back ourselves.

Unfortunately it turns out our homeowner's insurance policy only covers $1,500 in material losses, so we are  looking at a substantial financial hurt as well as the emotional ones and deeply appreciate Cheyenne's offer to set up a fundraiser.

We are overwhelmingly grateful for the support of our friends and family through all of this. We also remain aware that many folks just a stone's throw from us are suffering losses in the SoCal fires, and are mindful that material losses can't touch the amazing, supportive community of family and friends surrounding us.

Thank you so much to everyone who has reached out with kind words and prayers. We are so grateful. <3
