Help raise money towards Darcy’s Surgery in UK

Our girl Darcy Boo Boo is a big hearted caring rescue dog that makes us smile every day. In March this year 2019 she suddenly started to fall over and slip ,she is a big girl so this was hard falls. We brought her to our vet who x rayed her and medicated her , he found abnormalities in her neck vertebrae and revered us to the top orthopedic surgeon in Ireland in Cork a 4 hour drive from us. We went and he quickly watched her , tested her and told us she had Cervical Vertebrae Stenotic Myelopathy (CVSM), commonly known as WobblersSyndrome, Common in Dobermans , she was ataxia which meant her hind limbs were not stable or getting messages . He gave her medication and strict crate rest with with very little Movement hoping to treat it with drugs. Darcy slowly got worse and we had to take off her collar and buy a special harness to help her and then boots for traction which have helped her so much . We bought non slip mats 18 large to put all over the floor in our home to stop her slipping and falling which really helped manage it and reduce her slipping. Darcy is in pain even with many drugs but this big hearted dog smiles all day , plays and is the crazy dog we love with all this going on . Our surgeon Said if she took a fall or she could just wake up paralyzed and then we would have to euthanize her, the bones in her neck were crumbling . He said surgery would be the answer now, down and up to cork again and agin  we went then for the MRI with high hopes . He came back with bad news, the bones were crumbling but the disc had exploded putting pressure on the spinal cord . He explained he and no one else in Ireland could do this complicated surgery as it so rare . We asked if anyone could he said yes and recommend a neurosurgeon he  in England . We have always paid insurance for our three dogs but when we enquirer they will not cover anything outside the republic even when our vet explained it couldn’t be done here. My own vet on talking to him confirmed he believed and knew the recommenced vet in Derby and felt that Darcy would have the best chance of a normal life and she was the type of dog to get through this and thrive. The vet in UK has given her an 80% chance of pre diagnosis recovery and we have booked her for 20th January . If she does not have the surgery is not of it when we loose her as it’s a progressive situation.  I would NEVER do something like this for myself and never have but I am at my wits end. The surgery is quoted at approx £9000 which is approx €10’500 excluding travel and sundries we can get the balance and cover her cost for rehab in cork which is big bucks as the insurance won’t cover that either as she will come from UK . We may even get more as we are doing everything we can .  We will drive Darcy  from our home to dun laoire to take the ferry to Wales and drive to England  she will be in hosipital for approx 5 days and we will then drive her back to Cork , then we will bring her home for strict crate rest for a few weeks with Physio in cork weekly . In only a few months God willing she will be her old self , but she will FEEL the difference in pain pretty much immediately . IM asking because Darcy is a special girl and I could never repay her for what she has given me, she is my shoulder to lean on and is like my own supply of feel good meds. I simply cannot cope with my own challenges without her , she is selfless , a rescue that just keeps giving . Even now in her situation her crazy goofy personality shines through and she thinks about me and Conor ( her papa Joe) and her brother Mr Reilly and sister Luna the puppy as her family to care for . Both vets agree it’s well worth doing this and I know it is .  Anyone that knows me knows I would only ask for my dogs , we have no kids and agree with it or not they are our world. People choose to spend huge money on cars , holidays , jewelry I CHOOSE MY GIRL , MY DOGS.  Money is not sentient , it is not my friend , not my family, it doesn’t care more for me than itself . My dogs do my girl Darcy does . I feel so upset and emotional and a little embarrassed writing this but as I take a deep breath before I post this I say time is of vital importance here or I would save and get it in the summer but Darcy doesn’t have that time  and Darcy can’t ask so we will  If you give €5 or €50 THANKS YOU FROM CONOR AND ME , from the bottom of our hearts we will be eternally grateful to you. If you don’t believe we should be spending this amount on a dog and don’t want to give anything ok cool I get it but keep your thoughts to yourself and jog on  .  Conor and I are active animal rights advocates and have done nothing but given to the cause of dogs and would love to get help in this a very dark time for us. If we had it in the bank We would not be doing this .  THANK YOU IN ADVANCE TO ALL YOU WHO KMOW WHAT DARCY MEANS TO US AND TO YOU WHO DONT EVEN KNOW US.  DARCY DESERVES A CHANCE HELP US GIVE IT TO HER .
