Help Put An Inspiring Cold War Story In A Library

Donation protected

Hi!  My name is Donald Smith. I've written a book about an inspiring, but little-known episode of Cold War history. Steinstuecken (German for "stone pieces), a small neighborhood outside of Berlin, was completely cut off from the city and completely surrounded by Communist territory.  It was safeguarded by the U.S, Army and State Department for more than 20 years. Unable to drive to the village, the Army used helicopters to fly Military Police in and out. The MPs guarded the village, and kept it free. Meanwhile, the villagers tried to live as normal a life as possible.

Now, the villagers, MPs and airmen have told their stories, in my book. They want their experiences, and their determination, to be remembered by future generations.  The book has a website:  http://steinpocket.com .  Go there and read all about it!

This GoFundMe will pay for 100 copies of the book to be mailed to libraries across the continental U.S.  That will allow anyone to read this village's story---a story of how American and Berliners worked together to keep this small village free. Hence the book's title: "Steinstuecken: A Little Pocket of Freedom."

I am foregoing any royalties that I, as the author, would normally earn from these 100 copies.

If anyone wants to buy a copy (or more) for themselves, the book is now available for pre-order at the Acclaim Press website.  Here is the direct link to that page:  Steinstuecken A Little Pocket of Freedom .  We expect the book to be ready for delivery by January 2022.
