Hurricane Maria tore through our island of Puerto Rico with force and fury never before seen there. The damage extends throughout the whole island. Power is out for 100% of the island and water service is down for most of the households. There are currently about 15,000 people in refuge around the island, with more coming in as flooding continues and a dam on the northwest of Puerto Rico is about to give out. 16 deaths have been confirmed up until this moment and the authorities and rescue teams are working hard to save the people that are still in danger.

Everybody lost power, most lost access to communication and some lost it all. They are the reason I set up this GoFundMe page, to spread the word on our situation, help in satisfying the needs of those who do not have the resources and help give an opportunity for a fresh start to those who need it the most. ANY AMOUNT COUNTS and will go a long way towards helping our island get back up on its feet. 100% of the funds raised will be directed to the local organizations working hard to keep these families safe and give them a chance to get their life back. They provide shelter, medical services, water, food and other essentials, as well as helping with the long term recovery process of those who lost it all.

My name is Omar Vázquez, an artist and designer based in Toa Baja, Puerto Rico with family all over the metropolitan area. I left the island the day before the storm hit. Not looking to escape it, but to make the most of an incredible career opportunity and represent my country abroad during that time. Leaving my wife, family and friends back home, facing the wrath of the storm was one of the hardest and most difficult decisions I've ever made in my life. Being assured they were all safe, but at the same time feeling useless and so far away from my home, my people and the ones I love, I decided to do whatever was within my reach to help. I'll be forever grateful to anybody that is down to join me in this effort.
