ABOUT THE PLAY
Let’s be clear, GIRLHOOD is NOT a coming of age story, and it’s not about spectacular girls. Instead, it’s a hot, messy and wholesome chapter in the lives of five 15 year old average janes who are struggling to navigate the allure of womanhood, their sexuality, their trauma, their family and their place in the thick of it all. GIRLHOOD is sweet and savory and reminds us that it’s hard to be a 15 year old girl.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
The Tank generously offers tremendous resources, time and space, all free of charge. But still, producing theatre in the Big Apple is not cheap! We have some expenses to cover and any type of support you’re able to provide is deeply appreciated!
You can support us in any way you choose! We’ll accept anything from a monetary donation of any size, a post on social media, word of mouth, your attendance at one of our performances, a Broadway contract or a bazillion gazillion dollars.
Truly, every bit of help goes a long way and we thank you for whatever you can provide.
WHAT YOU ARE FUNDING
A portion of your donation will help us put together the best show possible and the rest will go to a great cause!
A large portion of your generous donation will fund our rehearsal space rental fees, cover the cost of the design elements that bring the show together and will pay each member of the cast and creative team for their hard work on this production.
The rest will be donated to ADVOCATES FOR YOUTH ! AFY is not associated with this play, but we love what they do! AFY is an organization that advocates for young people’s rights to honest sexual health information; accessible, confidential, and affordable sexual health services; and the resources and opportunities necessary to create sexual health equity for all youth. WHY ADVOCATES FOR YOUTH?
GIRLHOOD emphasizes what happens when young people are misinformed about sexual health and sexuality. The play acknowledges taboos that bury us from a young age and sheds light on the inherited stigma and fear that surrounds an intrinsic part of being human. Advocates for Youth works to change just that. AFY is shifting the cultural paradigm in which we live in from one that too often stigmatizes youth and youth sexual development to one that embraces youth as partners and recognizes sexuality as normal and healthy.
