Help Päivi with her medical expenses
We are raising money to help Päivi with her medical expenses and eventual return to Florida for rehabilitation and recovery.
On June 29th, 2021, Päivi, a healthy and active 56-year old from Florida was suddendly hospitalized during her visit to North Carolina. She quickly deteriorated, required a respirator and was put into a medical coma after severe seizures. On July 3rd after a 4-night stay at Haywood Regional Hospital in NC, she was air-lifted to Prisma Health Memorial Hospital in Greenville, SC, where she was admitted to the neurological ICU. After 3 weeks in the ICU, and after ruling out several diagnosis, her current “working diagnosis” is Guillian Barre Syndrome; Acute motor axonal neuropathy. She remains unable to breathe on her own and has been mostly paralyzed throughout her hospitalization. On July 20th, on the 21st day of hospitalization, the treatment with most hope to help her get better, plasma therapy, ended with little, if any, improvement. She has now developed pneumonia, and underwent tracheostomy. Her path to recovery is still far away, possibly months or even years ahead. She wants to return home to Florida for rehabilitation and recovery as soon as possible, looking at a very expensive medical transport (not yet possible in her current condition), and continuing with long term rehabilitation and therapy.
Päivi and her spouse Frankie live with their two rescue puppies, Clea and Vivi, in Plantation FL. A native of Finland, Päivi has lived in the US for the past 30+ years. She is one of the most giving, loving and unselfish persons I have ever met. She gives unconditional love to everyone around her, she opens her home and her heart, and always supports her large community of friends. Now she needs our help! She deserves all the love, support, prayers and monetary help we can get her!
Both Päivi and Frankie are private entrepreneurs with their own businesses, which they are unable to run due to Päivi’s sudden debilitating illness. With zero income, and medical bills and living expenses that keep piling up, they need our help! The U.S. is the world’s most expensive country for healthcare. Her treatment is likely to cost millions of dollars. While Päivi fortunately has health insurance, U.S. health insurances have exclusions and limitations that are most certainly going to apply in her case with a need for long term rehabilitation. Please help!
