Help Peru guide Omar Quintana improve his Bakery

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Omar Quintana. I was a tour guide in Peru but now I have begun baking bread to support my family.

A typical day for me now starts at 3:30 am, to make sure the bread is ready to be delivered by 7 am. It often takes me all morning to deliver it around my neighbourhood on my bike. I would like your support to help me expand my little business and help me deliver more bread.

I live in Cusco, Peru with my wife and our two children: 8-year-old Maia and 11-month-old Lhosa Gael. I have worked as a guide for the past 20 years, 5 of those with Amazonas Explorer. I loved to work in Amazonas Explorer for its philosophy, policy and commitment to the environment and sustainability.

At our home bakery, we have been baking preservative-free natural bread. My approach is to produce the healthiest bread, such as grain bread, seed bread, bread with aromatic herbs; I have been experimenting with some things but I need to improve.

MY PROJECT.

The important thing in this business is the desire to do things well. Every day is one more day of practice and the customers are the ones who evaluate if the product is adequate. So far I have been improving and increasing production a little more every day. I am the baker with an innovative but handmade product.

 EQUIPMENT.

This is the tricky, frustrating, and limiting factor. The workforce is ready, the desire to work is also ready, but it is the necessary equipment that I do not have. Here's what I would need, and how I would invest your donations to make this project go forward.

LIST OF EQUIPMENT:                                                                    Price in £                      $

S / 300 …… ... 12 trays.                                                                         65                                85

The total expenses in these teams amount to S / 11800 or 2573£ or 3338$

3.- SUPPLIES.

In the case of supplies, it is easier to get it, at least with the little experience I have in bakery, I can get the flour from the same factory, for example, a 50kg bag of flour. It costs 90 soles( About 20£ or 25$)

From the beginning of this undertaking, I continued with the philosophy and principles of not leaving a trace by reducing plastic. I deliver the bread in cloth bags, while also following biosafety protocols. But unfortunately, due to the situation we are going through, customers prefer to have as little contact as possible with the product at the time of delivery.
I am thinking of another strategy to continue with the elimination of plastic. And this strategy is to make paper bags by recycling the sacks of flour sack and we will see if it will be profitable. Another option is to make our own cloth bags in an interchangeable way, it means: I leave you a cloth bag and the client gives me another cloth bag. In my house, I wash and I then reuse them.

There is still many ways I am hoping to improve and grow.

Thank you for your support, please donate and share my project

How it works:

I, Paul Cripps, owner of Amazonas Explorer have agreed to help set up these Gofundme crowdfunding pages for my guides who are struggling to make ends meet whilst the tourism industry implodes in Peru. We hope it will be back one day soon, but for now, they need to reinvent themselves in order to feed their families.

The funds will be collected here in the UK into my account and then I will pay the exact equivalent in Peruvian soles from my Peruvian account into their personal accounts to minimise bank transfer fees and exchange rate fluctuations.

I will also personally contribute the first $150 of each proposal to help them get started. This will be donated directly into their accounts to avoid charges.

Our guides provide a big part of the magic of any trip to Peru and it is their personal touches, professionalism, wit and charm that makes each trip they guide unforgettable.

So,  if you enjoyed your trip to Peru with one of our guides, please give what you can.

I know times are difficult everywhere but these guides are true heroes, their projects are borne out a desire to survive this pandemic and come out the other side better for the experience.

If you can't donate, please share and spread the word to help them achieve their goals.

Let me take this opportunity to thank you so much for anything you can do.
