AS a family we have been talking about what we can do to make our schools safer. I wanted to show my son Gavin and my daughter Noelle that even though the issue seems bigger than anything we can fix by ourselves that WE CAN do our part to make a positive change.... And a lightbulb went off, it was so obvious. Officer Riddick!!!!
Let me explain. Officer Riddick stands outside my sons school just about every morning and he addresses the kids and their parents as they drop off. I have seen him at honor roll breakfasts congratulating the kids as they walk by. I have seen him holding conversations with students in the morning before class, he jokes around with them, he knows thier names he knows their problems and more than that he helps them solve them. I can just about guarantee you that if there was a troubled student Officer Riddick would be the first to know. He takes the time get to know these students. I truly am so thankful for him, he is such a positive role model for our kids. He is one of many officers stationed at schools all around Palm Beach County that do this day in and day out.
Which brings me to the donation portion of this story. Officer Riddick has 2 Police Dogs that work with him. After doing a little research I have found that on average these dogs cost around $10,000 dollars. Which may seem like a lot of money but when you really think about it these dogs have specialized training which allows them to detect firearms, illegal drugs and perform search and rescue missions,
Unfortunately there is clearly need for more detector dogs. So this is where the generous donations from our community comes in. These officers both human and animal are our children’s first line of defense when they are at school. So it seems obvious that we would want to help facilitate their needs anyway possible. This is why I am asking that you please consider giving what you can to help the Palm Beach County School Police k9 officers. It is people like Officer Riddick and his k9 partners that give me a sense of peace when I drop my son off at school every morning. As any parent can tell you in these times peace of mind is priceless.
Money collected will also help to pay expenses such as ongoing training, equipment, food and veterinary care,
