Help my mini schnauzer Dave

My mini schnauzer Dave was attacked on the beach over the long weekend.
He suffered an extensive puncture wound that requires a drain and surgery along with his eyes being bruised and filled with sand.
Dave is one of the gentlest dogs you will ever meet, he is placid, loves everyone and wouldn't hurt anyone or anything.
He and my 8yr old son are the best of friends and I am grateful that my son did not witness the attack as it was traumatic.
A black staffy x attacked him whilst we were walking on Shelly Beach. This dog would not let go of mine there were three people trying to get this staffy off Dave. I was by myself that day and had left my phone at home.
I gave the owner of the dog my mobile number and he said he called me so I would have his number. Nothing. No phone call. I was in such shock that didn't think of another way to get hold of this owners details.
I had to take Dave to Sash an emergency vet which cost $600. I have just taken Dave to our vet and he requires surgery to fix the wound which will be $900.
Sadly when I spoke with the vet they said the owners of dogs who attack other dogs rarely pay for the bills.
I am hoping to raise the money to pay for Dave's vet bills and ensure we can get him home, safe and happy.
