Uplift Patty Berne Surviving & Healing from Cancer

Donation protected
Patty Berne, our beloved friend, comrade, and disability justice visionary, recently found out that she has endometrial cancer.

She is having open surgery on October 29, 2019 at Stanford Medical Center in Palo Alto.

The situation is complicated by the fact that her body doesn't make a protein that's important for the maintenance of motor neurons (they signal the brain & spinal cord to tell muscles to move w/force) [SMA Type II]; her cells don't allow glucose in so it floats in her blood instead [diabetes type 2]; she has 3 grapefruit sized protein tumors in her abdomen [fibroids]; she has significant bilateral sciatic nerve pain from when she was hit by a car; and her respiratory capacity kind of sucks (her lung capacity is 33%; her breathing pathway is compromised: and  she has both central and obstructive sleep apnea).

Thankfully, Patty is a badass and we pray for a full recovery by the end of the year.

We are fundraising to pay for housing for the folks in her support team who will be providing 24/hr support while she is in Palo Alto; the additional attendant support she will need during the anticipated 2 - 3 month recovery period; non-emergency medical transportation; nutrient dense food; everything else that Medicare doesn't cover.

Any gift will help, from $5 to $500.  All of it contributes to Patty's healing.  We also appreciate this fundraiser being shared -- widely.

Thank you in advance for giving as much as you can toward the gift that keeps on giving named Patty.

PS: We are currently looking for fragrance-free accommodations in Palo Alto for her support team from Oct 29th - Nov 4th.  If you know of a fragrance-free (or very low-fragrance) spot in or near Palo Alto, please message us.
