HELP OUR HIMALAYAN VILLAGE ON THE BORDER OF TIBET

My name is Elaine Briggs and I have been privately fundraising for this wonderful village on the border of Tibet and Nepal since the earthquake in 2015. However, I have known this village since 2003.

The main reason I do this is that I have an adopted Tibetan daughter who was born in this village. So it is easy for me to get all of the money in a safe and secure way directly to where it is needed most.

The village is 8 days walk from Kathmandu and on the border of Tibet and Nepal.

Since the earthquake, the main houses have been re-built and we have managed to build a small school building for primary school children from nursery school age to aged 11.

The staple food is barley and potatoes which they grow alongside the village, this is vital as supplies from Kathmandu are rare.

Last week there were devastating landslides destroying all of the planted crops and most of the fields for next year.

The villagers are now facing vital food shortages alongside the present pandemic situation. In an area that already has severely malnourished children, this situation is indeed extremely frightening for them. Here are some pictures.

After the earthquake and at the beginning of the pandemic we managed to do several food runs which involve rice/lentils/oil all carried by mule 6 days up to the village. In the photo, you can see the rice sacks waiting to be distributed.

We are attempting to do the same again by the end of July.

A sack of rice is $23 including the transport and a sack of lentils is $45. We are also looking to buy stationery for the school as the Nepali government have just announced that they will not send any funds for Primary schools. These children deserve an education!
