HELP FIREFIGHTER MORRISON Fight Progressive Neurodegenerative Disease

My name is Dagen McNally and I’m starting a Gofundme to help my brother Firefighter Jason Morrison. Jason has been a Firefighter for St Johns County Fire Rescue for over 15 years. He was the Firefighter/Engineer on Squad 4 C shift, and on the USAR/HAZMAT Special Operations teams. He’s always had a unique sense of humor and been an integral part of the team. After you get past his rugged initial impression you will find a compassionate, caring man who is willing to literally give you the shirt off his back. Ask anyone on his crew and they will tell you its not the same place without him there!
WHAT HAPPENED-
Jason was working in what he dreamed would be his lifetime career when on August 8th 2019 his life changed forever. During his normal scheduled shift he experience a Neurological event while driving Squad 4 code 3 to a call shortly before midnight. Jason experienced the sudden onset of severe blurred vision in his right eye, extreme dizziness,(vertigo) right sided leg weakness, nausea, sweating, pins and needles in his hands and arms. He was immediately transported to the emergency room. According to Jason the events of that evening are very vague. He can only remember bits and pieces. His crew said he looked bad that night! He couldn’t even stand without assistance and kept falling to the his right side. He has seen over 18 specialist since, and been diagnosed with Progressive Neurodegenerative Disease.
JASON MORRISON, THEN AND NOW-
There is very little resemblance of the life Jason had before that day. He was a healthy strong firefighter with a hard and fast attitude. He was a passionate athlete, and a loving husband and father that was full of life!! Jason was always pursuing new adventures with his young daughter. He loved teaching her about the outdoors, sharing his love of the ocean and would rather spend the majority of his time being active outside than indoors. He loved his job, and his family both at home and the fire department. Jason is a fighter! I’ve seen him overcome all types of obstacles, injuries, and set backs in his life. He has tried and continues try by every means to overcome his disease and find his way back to that life, to find a way to return to the job he loved, and be able to take care of his family. The instability and progressive nature of his disease is a concern. The damage done from Neurodegenerative disease doesn’t heal, there is no cure, and it only continues to worsen over time. His condition changes constantly from varying degrees from day to day, minute to minute. He has permanent decreased vision, and instability/tracking in his right eye that glasses can’t repair, and an almost constant state of impaired cognitive ability to varying degrees from a mild brain fog to a severe lack of focus. He has memory and concentration difficulties, and dizziness that ranges from lightheadedness to not being able to stand without losing his balance. He has heat intolerance that causes severe paresthesia. He is almost always in some type of pain, and unable to do anything that requires a lot of activity, focus, or energy for very long before experiencing worsening of symptoms. He continues to try and do things he was once able to do and usually can for a short time only to become exhausted both physically and mentally struggling.
WHY JASON NEEDS YOUR HELP-

Jason was forced to resign from his career at the fire department on December 26th 2020 because of his disease. Which also meant losing his insurance for himself and his family. He was the sole provider for his family, his wife Stacy, young daughter Willow, and step-son Joshua. He has also been the caregiver for his 95 year old, legally blind grandmother for over 10 years. Along with the loss of employment, loss of insurance for the entire family and still struggling to pay for the enormous amount of medical bills that have accrued over the past year and a half. He is struggling to meet minimum necessities due to the significant loss of income. The money donated will help cover his accumulated medical bills, future medical visits, testing and treatments as well as ongoing medications. Helping Jason, Stacy, Willow, and Joshua be able to afford current living expenses. Jason is still in need of being followed by his doctors, he requires continued testing and medication to try and find a way to improve symptoms and slow progression of the disease. The cost just to continue insurance coverage for his family alone through COBRA is over $1800 a month. So as of now Jason and his family have no insurance coverage, and unfortunately none of the “affordable” Obama Care insurance will cover any of his specialists or testing!
Jason’s wife has Mixed Connective Tissue Disease , a rare autoimmune disease where multiple diseases overlap, Lupus, Sjogrens’s, Polymyositis, and Rheumatoid Arthritis. She requires frequent lab test to monitor organ functions, and is on multiple medications as well. To help prevent progression and reduce the severity of her symptoms. Because of her disease, she is limited to only being able to work a few days per week.
EVERY DONATION COUNTS-
I’m asking everyone and anyone who can, to please help Jason Morrison at this devastating point in his life. He needs all the help he can get to fight his battle. Even though he would be the last person to ask for help. Any donation amount will help and be greatly appreciated! After all he has done for others over the years, I would love to see him be able to focus on getting the best medical treatment and care he can, and not have the stress and worry about whether or not he can continue going to his doctors and specialists or afford all his medications and provide for his family. If you are unable to help monetarily, I ask if you will please lift up Jason and his family in prayers and love. Let him know, he is not fighting this alone! Thank You All and May God Bless You!!!!
