Help Orla go to World Scout Jamboree 2023

Donation protected

In November 2021 I applied for a place to attend WSJ 2023 A lot of scouts applied, and I felt the the chances of success were slim.

I was chosen to attend a selection weekend at Auchengillan Outdoor Centre, where we participated in a number of group activities, where we were closely observed by Scout leaders and judged on our teamwork abilities and leadership qualities. I was nervous, but I was surprised by how much fun I had.

After a nailbiting 10 day wait, I was excited to hear that I had been accepted to go to South Korea as part of the UK contingent for WSJ 2023.
This means so much to me because 3 years ago I watched a presentation by some scouts from the Kilsyth troop that attended WSJ 2019 in West Virginia and I decided that I wanted to do this. My Dad attended WSJ Sydney in 1987 as part of the South African contingent and it really changed his outlook on the world, so I want to experience that too. South Korea has special interest for me as I am fascinated with the culture, especially the fashion and art. It has been my dream to experience Korea first hand for a few years now, and this is my big chance. I am working hard on my fundraising plan and I will be so grateful for any support you can give me to help me achieve my goal.

In Summer 2023, more than 40,000 Scouts from all over the world will gather in Korea for the 25 World Scout Jamboree. The World Scout Jamboree (WSJ) is a World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) event, it happens every four years, each time hosted by a different country. Thousands of UK young people aged 14 to 17 and their leaders will in South Korea and we’ll call ourselves the UK Contingent.

We dream about a sustainable world, where everyone’s welcome. But we’re not just about dreaming, Scouts want to see action too. Our UK Contingent won’t silently creep round global issues, we’ll be trailblazers for getting young voices heard
