Help Oaxaca Escuela Secondaria Tecnica No. 14

In December of 2017, I was asked to speak to a group of beekeepers in Veracruz, Mexico. What an honor. And what new friends I made. While there, I was introduced to a school in Oaxaca city. Escuela Secondaria Tecnica No. 14 is a high school, teaching apiculture in the curriculum. To attend, the kids must be poor, speak the local Indian dialects, and perform community service. These kids are amazing. What they know about keeping bees is so far ahead of most kids you’ve ever known. They make nucleus colonies and raise queen bees, abilities far advanced for their age. But they have a problem.
The school is trying to educate these children, with few resources. The bee boxes are rotten. The extractor is a rust bucket. They’re handling Africanized bees with falling apart bee suits and veils with rotten screens. They sent me a list of wants posted below. A list of the things they feel would start them on the path to their future.
I would like to raise enough funds so the school has the bee suits and equipment they need, to allow these kids to grow. We live in a world with so much, and so many possibilities. Please donate what you can for these children of Oaxaca. Isn’t it better to build bridges between peoples?

Please allow me to thank you for all you have done in Mexico with your teachings, hoping that you had a wonderful Christmas and New Year’s season.
As you know, UGAN – our non for profit beekeepers union in Mexico, has made it a mission to bring teachers to the most remote parts of Mexico’s beekeeping communities, doing it with the help of friends that like you, give their time and knowledge just for the love of helping someone else in need.
One of our main concerns is the upcoming generation of beekeepers, which now, facing multiple enemies of the beehive, have to face global warming, beehive beetle, Varroa and the aggressive africanization of our beehives. The africanization of our bees has created an exodus among the experienced beekeepers and now, we are presented with the challenge of teaching a new generation that will replace those leaving the industry. Beekeeping is and can be a lucrative business that can provide the opportunities to the new generations, right there in their communities, right there where the need is.
By teaching the young, we create a new generation of entrepreneurs and independent business owners that will be able to provide a good and productive future for them and their families.
We are trying to help a trade school / shelter in Oaxaca City, where poor kids from the state of Oaxaca come to study high school and take beekeeping as a trade. The plan is to provide the school with beekeeping supplies that will allow them to continue their efforts. At present time they have two strong needs; suits and woodenware. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
