My name is Nihil (they/he), and I am a trans androgynous person living on occupied Lenape land. Some of you may know me from my work as the front person of DECISIONS and BLOOD CLUB, the creator of DREK zine, or from my work as an all ages punk and experimental booker and curator in NYC. I am also an educator and urbanist, about to start work on my senior thesis centered around abolition, mutual aid, and accessible transit in NYC.
After years of waiting, I am finally getting top surgery! I yearn for a body that reflects the true nature of who I am inside, and after years of dealing with dysphoria, distress and depression related to my chest, I will finally be receiving top surgery from Dr. Bartlett in Boston, MA on January 6th, 2021! SURREAL NEWS/ACTUALIZATION!!!! This procedure is very much necessary for me to live a happy and peaceful life.
I am thankfully insured, though only through enrollment in my university. I was not planning on raising funds for this procedure, but because my insurance plan rolls over every academic year, my out of pocket maximum and coinsurance have increased SIGNIFICANTLY since I had my consultation back in February. I am a senior and will be graduating this spring, and it is important for me to have this procedure done while I am still insured and receiving scholarships that help me with my rent + bills. In other words: now is my time!
As a white person, I feel conscious of and reluctant about raising funds for my top surgery during TWO global crises: racism/state violence, and the plague. These crises affect Black, and more specifically Black trans women, more than they could ever or will ever affect me. For this reason, I am asking you to PLEASE CONSIDER MATCHING ANY DONATION YOU SEND ME TO A TRANSITION FUNDRAISER OF A BLACK TRANS PERSON I know many of you are able to do that :~) <3
The amount that I am raising does aim to cover the total cost of surgery, but any amount that I receive will be gratefully accepted. If for any reason I receive more than I need, I will be paying it forward to the aforementioned fundraisers.
