Lieve mensen,

Wij (moeder, vader en zusje) van Nick zamelen geld in voor een behandeling met stamceltherapie in Mexico om de MS een halt toe te roepen.

Nick is een fijn mens die helaas al een groot gedeelte van zijn leven (en jeugd) moet dealen met beperkingen door ziekte. Toen hij 9 jaar oud was is er een aneurysmatische botcyste geconstateerd waardoor hij een lange periode in een rolstoel heeft gezeten en lange tijd heeft moeten revalideren. Dit is hem uiteindelijk gelukt.

Toch bleven er vage klachten die niet goed te plaatsen waren. De klachten namen in de loop der jaren toe en o.a. vermoeidheid, krachtverlies, evenwicht en concentratiestoornissen zorgden ervoor dat hij op jonge leeftijd steeds vaker moest rusten i.p.v. plezier maken of zorgeloos genieten zoals tieners dat doen. Onderzoek wees uit dat Nick MS heeft en zo kwam als 19-jarige jongen zijn leven opnieuw op zijn kop te staan.

De klachten zorgden al snel voor een grote impact op zijn leven en onbezorgd iets ondernemen zit er niet meer in. In een korte tijd moest zijn medicatie worden verzwaard, omdat de klachten die bij MS horen al snel toenamen. Met veel plezier werkt hij nu 2 uur per dag maar hoe leuk hij zijn job ook vindt, meer lukt niet.

Nu, 13 jaar later wil Nick zo graag meer uit het leven halen. Hoewel medicatie de MS remt, is dit van tijdelijke aard en zullen de fysieke en cognitieve klachten blijven toenemen. Dit maakt zijn toekomstbeeld erg onzeker en de angst voor toenemende klachten of uitvalsverschijnselen is elke dag aanwezig.

De medische wereld blijft zich gelukkig ontwikkelen waardoor stamceltherapie mogelijk is om de MS weg te halen. Dit is een zeer intensieve behandeling waarbij een stamceltransplantatie uitgevoerd wordt met nieuwe stamcellen. Die worden door zijn eigen lichaam aangemaakt met behulp van een driedaagse opgewekte 'boost' kuur in het medische centrum. Met chemotherapie worden alle foute stamcellen vernietigd waarna de geoogste nieuwe stamcellen worden ingebracht. Deze behandeling is echter helaas voor hem niet mogelijk in Nederland.

Gelukkig heeft hij bij de medische instelling in Mexico goedkeuring gekregen om zich daar te laten helpen en mag hij deelnemen aan deze behandeling.

Hoe sneller we kunnen starten met de behandeling, hoe meer kans we hebben om verslechtering te voorkomen.

We, the parents and sister of Nick, are reaching out to seek your support in funding Stem Cell Therapy in Mexico to halt his Multiple Sclerosis (MS).

Nick is a wonderful person who unfortunately has had to deal with limitations due to illness for a large part of his life (and youth). When he was 9 years old, an aneurysmal bone cyst was diagnosed, causing him to spend a long period in a wheelchair and undergo extensive rehabilitation. He eventually succeeded.

However, vague symptoms persisted that were difficult to place. Over the years, the symptoms worsened, including fatigue, loss of strength, balance, and concentration issues, causing him to have to rest more often at a young age instead of enjoying carefree fun like other teenagers. Investigations revealed that Nick has MS, and so his life was turned upside down again at the age of 19.

The symptoms quickly had a major impact on his life, and carefree activities became a thing of the past. His medication had to be intensified quickly because the symptoms associated with MS increased rapidly. Presently, he manages to work with passion for two hours daily, as working more is not feasible due to his MS.

It has been 13 years since Nick's MS diagnosis, and he aspires to live a fuller life beyond battling MS. Although the medication he currently uses slows the progression of MS, it does not stop it, and his condition is expected to worsen over time. The uncertainty of his future capabilities is a daily concern.

Fortunately, medical advancements have provided an opportunity to halt the progression of MS through Stem Cell Therapy in Mexico. This intense treatment involves a Stem Cell Transplantation using Nick's own body to create new stem cells collected over a three-day period at the medical center. Following this, chemotherapy is used to eliminate the malfunctioning stem cells. Unfortunately, this treatment is not available in the Netherlands, but the medical center in Mexico has accepted Nick as a candidate for this Stem Cell treatment.

The sooner we can begin this treatment, the better the chances of preventing further damage from MS.
