HELP NEIL WALK AGAIN

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Neil and I have been an amputee for 60 years. I was born in 1937 and at the age of 20 years, I was diagnosed with Cancer, Osteogenic Sarcoma of the bone.  Treatment was given but one year later my leg was amputated above the knee in 1958. Since then I have worn an artificial leg. I carried on working in my trade as a butcher in Victoria Park (Hendley butchers) and retired when I was 67 years old. We currently live on the pension. I have a wonderful life, very healthy go rowing every week and I am very active.  I served in Nashos but was released from duties due to my diagnosis.  I have played darts all my life and helped set up South Suburban Dart Association with Colin Walker and Peter O'Dea.   I have participated and raised funds for The Ride to Conquer Cancer.  For an above the knee amputee, the biggest limitation is the socket that attaches your leg to the stump.  Although they have improved over the last 60 years, the artificial leg is still held on with suction to the stump.  As you can imagine this causes ulcers, chaffing etc to the stump.  The ulcers then become infected and require dressings etc which are painful.  As the prosthetic is moulded to your stump any fluctuation in weight etc causes problems.  I have had two falls in the 4 years due to the leg slipping off.  Both falls resulted in two broken shoulders and I was wheelchair bound for 6 weeks each time as I could no longer use my crutches. The last two years I was informed from the limb centre in Belmont about a Dr who is doing a procedure called Osseo-integration.  The Limb centre believed I was great candidate for this procedure.  I met with Professor Munjed Al Muderis in Perth and he also believed I am a great candidate for this operation.  After researching the operation in the last 18 months and talking to people that have had this procedure, all have explained that it is like having your leg back, even an 84 year old has had this operation.  However this operation is not cheap, so for the first time in my life I am asking for help to raise the necessary funds to change my life immensely.  Words cannot express how I desire to walk again with NO FEAR. Please google Dr Professor Munjed Al Muderis. I take this time to thank you for reading my story and any contribution is appreciated from the bottom of my soul.  Thanking you Neil Hendley
