Please Help My Partner Afford Treatment!!

Donation protected

Hello, my name is Lark. I'm 23 and non-binary. My partner, Kaeden, who is 22 and also non-binary, URGENTLY needs help.

I'm typing this up on behalf of my partner who is unable to make this Go Fund Me due to the situation they're stuck in. Kaeden is chronically ill, at high risk for COVID-19, and potentially homeless VERY soon. We've been in a long-distance relationship for nearly three years.

I'd also like to note that I've made drawings for this Go Fund Me rather than photos of Kaeden. This is out of a privacy concern that their parents will find out and lash out at Kaeden, or worse. We're also just mostly private people, we don't take pictures of ourselves a lot.

Please, please take the time to read through this Go Fund Me. We would really appreciate it, it would mean the world to us.

Very recently, Kaeden got out of a very abusive and toxic household. Initially, they escaped their father who was physically abusive. They fled to their mother's house with nowhere else to go. They were forced from one toxic household to another. Their mother has tried to control every aspect of their life since they were very young.

Recently, Kaeden's mother forcefully flew them across the country. From North Carolina to California, admitting them into a mental health facility WITHOUT their consent. Her reasoning? "Kaeden is an alcoholic." Now yes, Kaeden HAS struggled with alcohol, in the past. However, I can attest that they've worked VERY hard on improving that. Plus, that is no basis to ship someone across the country without their explicit consent.

Unfortunately, Kaeden had no other option. They have a heart condition. Their mother kept their heart medicine, that they need, away from them until they agreed to go to the treatment facility. There is absolutely no excuse for withholding someone's life saving medication to manipulate them.

Not only did she force Kaeden, an adult, to go, she never even consulted them about her decision. Ever since Kaeden's childhood, their mother has done awful things like this to them. Kaeden has PTSD, as well as a debilitating Panic Disorder, which they have been getting help with and they have been prescribed medication for. Their mother takes full advantage of their disorders, however, to manipulate them. It's heartbreaking to see them go through this.

This situation has been awful and stressful for both of us. However, in a way, it was a blessing in disguise. Moving to California, Kaeden was able to escape their father and mother to get proper help that they deserve after going through that. We've had to face some significant struggles in our long distance relationship since all of this happened, but we're doing our best to work through it.

Despite being in California, Kaeden's mother is STILL trying to give them trouble and control them. She is trying to claim guardianship over them back in North Carolina. She lied to the court, saying that Kaeden is unable and unfit to take care of themself.

Kaeden is perfectly sane and absolutely able to care for themself. The staff at the treatment center has agreed with this. They've been kind enough to help Kaeden and give them legal advice. Luckily, their mother cannot get legal guardianship without Kaeden's consent and a signature, and she holds no jurisdiction over California laws.

Their time at the current facility they're staying at is almost over. Soon they'll be forced to live on the streets in California, where they have never lived before. We want to prevent this from happening, or at least not have them on the streets for too long, considering how soon their stay is over. They will have to leave by November 4, 2020 so we don’t have long.

As I mentioned before, Kaeden is VERY high-risk for COVID-19 with their heart problems. Living on the streets in the coming winter months, in the middle of an ongoing pandemic, is so opposite of ideal. They have no money.

Currently, we're looking into a program based in California that sounds like it could help Kaeden a lot. They offer housing and food, as well as a lot of resources for mental health. Along with that, the program offers resources for them that will last even after the program expires.

$7,500 is the cost for a three month stay at this facility. I have no doubt this place could help Kaeden tremendously while giving them some time to get on their feet. Professionals could help them with their trauma and their panic disorder as they heal from what they've gone through the past few months. Not to mention, they would be away from the toxic environments they've endured their whole life.

Getting help for their panic disorder is KEY to helping them get back into society. Their disorder is debilitating, especially in public. Even though they're medicated, they still struggle daily. Being away from their abusive parents will no doubt help them a lot.

All of the funding from this Go Fund Me would go directly towards the cost of this program. Going back to North Carolina is not an option we want to even think about. By all means, we want to avoid them having to go back to their mother or father. They may be forced under the guardianship of their mother. Meaning they would be stuck in an abusive household, again.

Kaeden and I have been together for so long. Our dream is to be able to live together one day, free from our pasts. They've been the most supportive person in my life when it came to my career choices, name changes, and identity. We've seen each other experience hardships and have never left each other's side. We've reached rock-bottom together, and have had some of our absolute best moments with each other. They’ve supported me unconditionally and understood me like no one else has.

I want to do the same for them.

The last thing I want is for them to live on the streets. The weather is getting colder, and we have a ruthless, rampant pandemic going on. Nobody deserves that, especially not someone who has been through so much already.

Words can't describe how grateful we'd be to reach our goal. If you can't donate, even sharing and spreading this would help so much.

I'm also doing art commissions to raise more money to help them. You can find my commission prices here.
