Help My Mom Rebuild the Family Home

Please help my mother gain suitable living.

For over four decades in a small town in the LowCountry of South Carolina, my mother has assisted with the health and upkeep of elderly family members and fed and sheltered younger family members. Since the late 70’s she could be counted on to attend to the needs of her grandmother and grandfather and eventually her father who succumbed to a 3-year battle with cancer on May 4, 2010. And still today her uncle. Unfortunately for my mother however, no one’s ever helped her in return.

And unfortunately, since the time of her father’s passing her health has declined as well, as she has been diagnosed as having COPD. Most of her day is spent tending to her and her uncle’s healthcare.

The worst part of all of this is that the house she and my great-uncle live in is barely standing. Since my grandfather took ill with cancer all upkeep on the house ceased, as he was a builder by trade and was always the one to take care of the property. This is how they live: ☹ There’s mold on the walls of the rooms. Ceilings have holes that show clear through to the sky. One of the 2 bathrooms hasn’t operated in almost 10 years, leaving them without a functional bathtub. Water damage has short-circuited the light in the family room-posing an electrical hazard. The back porch roof is completely damaged, leaving my mother to take a chance every time she goes out there to wash their clothes. When it rains heavily, or worse like it is doing today due to Elsa, my mother spends hours sweeping water out of the kitchen because like all of the rooms, it too has holes in the ceiling. She has grown weary of this and deserves more. Over the years many people who live on the land have passed away. And she is now wanting to part ways with all of the hazardous memories keeping only those things that are most important like small memorabilia and clothes. She is praying for the chance to start a new safe healthy comfortable life by receiving the chance at a new home for her and my great-uncle to live out their final days in.

Being a family who relied on personal trade skills to support themselves and maintain their land, there isn’t any savings in the family or ability to obtain a construction loan to rebuild. We are asking help with funds to have the house bulldozed, clear the land of junk, prepare the foundation, and acquire a builder for the construction of a new safe livable home.
