Help My Mom After Below Knee Amputation Surgery

Hi, my name is Joshua Greenwood and I’m a 21-year-old student at Georgia Southern University. I set up this GoFundMe page for my single-mother Rauni Person, who is suffering from various diseases and is facing an impending below the knee amputation surgery. She had been diagnosed with diabetes since she was 19 years old, and it’s been an uphill battle ever since. When I was around 9 or 10 my mother’s diabetes got out of control because she could not get her proper medications due to insurance issues, as a result she contracted diabetic retinopathy which caused her to lose over 80% of her vision. Doctors tried to restore as much as her vision as they could with many surgeries, which left her legally blind in one eye and totally blind in the other. Shortly after she had to have a PFA (partial foot amputation) on her right foot due to an ulcer on the bottom of her foot becoming infected. Now the other foot is infected, and it spread much farther this time partly due to her having PAD (peripheral arterial disease) and ineffectiveness of antibiotic medications prescribed, now her life is at risk.

There are several modifications around the house that need to be completed such as the inclusion of a wheelchair ramp outside to get into the house, renovating the upstairs bathroom to be able to fit her wheelchair to accommodate her and other home modifications. Enough money to cover the cost insurance won't cover for her prosthesis, and enough to cover her medical expenses after the surgery.

We have been struggling financially ever since she first lost her sight and have been managing somehow since but since going away to college, I find it harder and harder for us to stay financially stable with having all of this seemingly come out of nowhere. Though it all my mom has never lost faith or given up hope and I love her for that. She is THE strongest, sweetest, most caring person I have ever known and for all of this to be happening breaks my heart. Her surgery is scheduled for January 26th and will begin rehabilitation the following week i will update as soon as i get more information and also please share with whoever you can.
