Help My Friend (victim of abuse)

Donation protected
I need to share a story with you.  The names and identities of those involved are purposely left out for their protection.

I have a friend.  She is beautiful, smart and so caring and warm.  She is a loving mother to a precious five-year-old girl.  She is currently residing in a shelter for abused women with her daughter in NYC.

Sparing you the horrific details, she has been abused physically, mentally and emotionally for many years. The last beating she took, which sadly her daughter witnessed, had her fearful she would lose her life.  She decided this could not go on any longer, and finally escaped the brutality.  He had always tried to make her feel like she was nothing without him, that she was worthless.  Her strength to see beyond this and to find an escape is truly incredible.

She has an order of protection, and carries it with her wherever she goes.  She is fighting him through the legal system, with several court dates to follow.  She will eventually need to testify and relive these horrible moments in front of the monster himself.  And through this she remains the most amazing role model for her daughter  - brave, determined, and tougher than nails.

Her daughter is in trauma counseling, and my friend is going to start taking courses at a local university (paid for by the system).  She is trying to rebuild her life, but she needs our help.  Her daughter, a citizen of this country, is able to receive food stamps, equal to about $190 a month.  My dear friend, on green card for only 2.5 years and not a citizen of this country, cannot receive food stamps as you need to have a green card for at least 5 years.  CAN YOU EVEN BELIEVE.  Unfortunately she does not have any economic support so I’ve decided to rally the troops, my friends and anyone who cares to read and show compassion.

She has embraced poverty in a shelter because in return she has embraced FREEDOM.  Freedom to play music and dance and act silly with her daughter (which was not permitted by her husband).  Freedom to say and do what she wants when she wants to.  Freedom to live day to day without the fear of impending physical and emotional abuse.

Please help my dear friend make her difficult life transition a little easier.   The road ahead is not an easy one, but perhaps we can all help make it a little less burdensome.  All donations will go directly to her and her daughter for food and other necessities.

Thank you for taking the time to read – and PLEASE, I beg of you – please share this and help spread the word.  She needs a little bit of love from all of us!
