Help my dad fight leukaemia on my birthday
Donation protected
It’s my birthday tomorrow - that’s me in the picture either yawning or singing a lovely newborn song for my dad, brother Chris and his bear, 39 years ago.
Yesterday my dad, Richard Hoole, was diagnosed with leukaemia.
Today he starts chemo.
Things have moved very fast since we first knew there was reason for concern on Friday and he was admitted as fast as possible to a private hospital in Nicosia on Monday for tests and multiple blood transfusions.
There’s a lot going on, much of which I don’t feel right in sharing at this stage, and I’ve struggled with whether to share any of this or to make the request I’m about to, but being thousands of miles away it’s the one thing I can do to feel ever so slightly less helpless.
The costs of these tests and hospital stay is already into the thousands, something I know will be adding to my dad’s worries, but we also now know that if he’d waited to go through the Cypriot state healthcare system for diagnosis and treatment his prognosis would be the unthinkable.
He’s done a huge amount of volunteering and raising money for various charities and organisations since they moved out to Cyprus, including the British Forces Animal Rehoming Centre and Lions Club.
Now I’d like to do something for him.
So, I’ve set up this GoFundMe.
I feel massively anxious and awkward doing this but as I’m not doing any birthday drinks this year if you’re able to donate anything at all, perhaps the sum of a drink you *might* have bought me, it would be the best gift I could possibly ask for.
Thanks for reading.
