Help Miles (a Veteran) Get Rolling Again

Miles Oliver is a 55 year old, currently unsheltered, Army Veteran. After getting behind on his rent because of COVID-19, Miles was evicted from his apartment (there are plenty of landlord loopholes) and was living in his car. He continued to work during this time doing day labor and pizza delivery. He then had a heat stroke which landed him in the hospital for three days, and shortly thereafter, his vehicle died, leaving him with no way to get to work, and no safe place to sleep in the deadly heat.

I met Miles on the first day he walked in to Justa Center , the only day resource center in Phoenix serving 55+ homeless folks. Having worked with this community for many years now, I quickly recognize those who need a quick leg up and some kindness to get back on track, and help in these ways when I can. I do this, because I've had people do the same for me, and I believe if we all pay it forward, the world will be a sweeter, kinder place.

I covered his storage unit cost through Oct. 5 ($55), got the details about his car, and called my fantastic mechanic Dan at Landmark Auto  to see if he could help.  He said yes without any hesitation and gave me the number to the towing company. We had the car towed over, and the list of repairs is long, but we're determined to get Miles back in either his vehicle or a safer used vehicle ASAP (and he'll hopefully have new housing within the week too if we're lucky)! Dan has been kind enough to offer some pro bono repair services for this also. A new job for Miles can follow us getting him safe, reliable transportation again.
