Help Middle Schooler Fund a Science Fair Project

Hi, my name is Madeleine!

I am fundraising for my science fair project this year.

This project is the third year trying to find a more natural and healthy food preservative for people to use.

I beleive that the findings of this project with your help can improve health for all people and may change the way food is preserved in the future.

I am testing a component within olive oil (oleic acid) and strengthening it with another similarly structured component found in cinamon ( methyl hydroxy chalcone) and comparing this against sodium phosphate, a chemical currently used to preserve poultry. Using the results of this experiment I want to possibly make an ultimate preservative with the combination of these two possible antimicrobial agents.

Unfortunately in order to conduct industry standard testing, appearance bassed and bacterial testing must be used. These tests both cost around 12 dollars each per sample. In order to maximize accuracy and better analyse data I will be using 150 samples total. The final quote that I received from FSNS labs was $4,000 dollars. On top of this I will need to purchase a vacumm sealer, the specific cinamon compound ($600 dollars per kg), and the cost of 14lb of chicken.

This is why I have started a go fund me. This process of fundraising is the most important part of my experiment that will actually allow the experiment to happen. With your donation, the findings of this experiment can help many people and possibly reform the use of unhealthy preservatives as a whole.
