Help Michele O. Keep Fighting Cancer

Hello everyone. My dear friend Michele Obucina is struggling in her fight against breast cancer. In June, she lost her job with the state and was diagnosed with breast cancer shortly thereafter. In July she found herself without insurance while going through multiple tests and doctor visits. In this process, it was decided that a bilateral mastectomy followed by chemotherapy and radiation was necessary. Michele proceeded with the surgery but before she could begin chemotherapy, developed an infection in her surgical site necessitating a second surgery and delaying treatment until October. When she was able to begin chemotherapy, she had an implanted port surgically placed and had her first treatment. The following week, she developed yet another infection in the port site. This required a 3 day hospital stay with removal of her port followed by a week of IV antibiotics. She was finally able to resume treatment.  In the midst of all these events, she was notified that she did not qualify for the unemployment she had been receiving. She is required to pay back the $8,000 she has received. She has not been able to seek employment due to weekly chemotherapy as well as the lifting restrictions from her surgeries and the issues with infections. She has exhausted the resources available to her AND IS CONSIDERING STOPPING TREATMENT TO FIND WORK & PAY HER DEBTS. She is fearful of losing her home and is willing to potentially die of her disease rather than be indebted to the state which she worked for over 15 years. She is proud and doesn't ask for help. She is independent, strong and has been managing all of this alone. I know times are hard for everyone but nobody should have to choose between life saving treatment and work. She still has 11 weeks of chemotherapy followed by daily radiation treatments. She will return to work as soon as she is able. Please consider donating to help her stay in treatment.
