Help with Megan’s Cancer Journey

Donation protected
EDIT 7/9/20: Thanks to your generous donations, we made it to Minnesota. Your continued support helps with our return trip, out of network medical expenses on this trip, and for Collier to continue to stay home and care for Megan in her final days. Thank you so much for your support over the past 16 months EDIT: Unfortunately, we will not beat this aggressive cancer, but we are asking for one final push for funds to visit friends in Minnesota and family in Texas and Colorado while observing social distancing. We intend to do this with an RV, which will allow us to keep a bubble of self-containment, avoiding catching or spreading COVID-19 as we cross the country with our beloved dogs, seeing a few of nature’s beautiful sights along the way.

Thank you for coming to Megan’s GoFundMe page. Megan Chastain White is battling cancer. You may remember Megan’s smile from her years as a server at such Minneapolis restaurants as Red Stag, Sapor, and Victory 44, where she made an accolade winning latte for a Saveur writer.  She also worked at Lifetime Fitness in Plymouth, MN. Lately, she moved to Long Beach, CA, where she has sold Harley Davidsons and, more recently, Toyotas at West Coast Toyota of Long Beach.

As many of you know, Megan’s mom, Robin, passed away from cancer in February. It was her third battle, and this time it was just too widespread.

Suffering from a hoarse voice and sore throat, Megan went to the hospital in March.

The surgeon discovered a mass that had been blocking two thirds of her airway and preventing her vocal cords from touching. Thinking it was a benign cyst, we scheduled a surgery.

As Megan recovered from the anesthesia, the doctor gestured Collier into the consultation room. She said, the mass was “larger than we thought,” “hard” and “irregular.”

In short, it’s cancer.

Most cancers of the throat are very curable, but we don’t know what this one is yet. We know it’s rare. Identifying it could take weeks.

***update: Unfortunately, Megan has neuroendocrine cancer of the larynx, a very rare and aggressive cancer.

our cancer vlog is at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxTtim3mEe0j1EpPHqreGtA

Although we are insured, there are already four-figure copays, missed work days, and we haven’t even started treatment yet. There will be chemo and radiation and possibly more surgeries.

We’re doing as Americans do when we come face to face with the shortfalls of our health care system. We’re asking for help.

We’ve ball-parked the expected expenses, copays, prescriptions, dietary supplements, time off work, and even some fabulous but inexpensive wigs; and we’re asking our friends and family to contribute whatever you think is appropriate.

Megan is young and otherwise in good health. We expect a complete recovery, and we would love if any and all of you can be a part of that story.

We’re starting a cancer vlog, and we’ll be sharing that information with you as soon as it’s set up.  In the vlog, we’ll share information and observations from Megan’s cancer diagnosis and treatments, both holistic and prescribed. Wonderful friends have already dedicated time and resources to the treatment and to the blog.
