Help me kick cancers ass round 4
Donation protected
Phil here wanting to kick "Kanye" to the curb ! Yes, I named my cancer Kanye.
Diagnosed in 2012 with a rare form of cancer. Subsequent surgeries in 2013, 2015 and 2018 and hoped to bid it farewell once and for all.
Unfortunately, earlier this year, I was told it had returned in a small pocket in my lower right quadrant around the kidney area. Since then, it has doubled in size; my specialist team wants to evict it. My specialist team is in Sydney; they have looked after me since 2014.
The surgeries have all be a minimum of 10 hours long and then recovery after that. So during this time, I am limited in what I can do in a big way. I will be unable to drive for around 12 weeks and then be unable to lift more than 5kg for some time.
I will be in Sydney for a minimum of 2 weeks; however, based on previous, I am realistically looking at 3 or 4 weeks away. Recovery is going to be a long process as my body adjusts to its new "normal" once again
This doesn't make working at the airport as a baggage handler an easy task. Thankfully work is supportive and understanding, as I am a trainer also and can spend my time coming back to work conducting theory in the classroom.
I'm a proud person, and some would say highly stubborn in asking for help when needed. The figure I have thrown out is based on time away, not only from my family and home, but to cover accommodation while receiving initial treatment and recovery, fuel, bills, and wages while I cannot work. It would also help my partner (Erin) out while she is supporting me and also not working while this goes on. Once I am back home, things will slowly return to normal as I can work towards getting back to work and on my feet again.
I know it is a big ask when things are already tight everywhere.
I will be in the process of speaking to my super company to see what other options I have for financial support.
Erin and I are forever grateful in advance if you can or do help out.
Side note:
For those interested, the procedure is called a peritonectomy with HIPEC chemo
EPIC chemo is usually administered for five days after the surgery.
The cancer is pseudomyxoma peritonei, I also have intermediate to high grade adenocarcinoma and the presence of signet ring cells.
Much love
