Since the day he was born, Kane has been toiling with the nature of reality to better understand it's most fundamental concepts.
Today those fundamentals have been realised, and it is sweet sweet music!
POLR Technologies was established out of a desire to create technology that freed the creative user from the ever increasing complexity of modern digital tools, providing the fundamental building blocks to allow us to create at the speed of imagination.
This campaign marks a mile stone in this quest, the unveiling of the musical sequencer known as LIQUID GRID.
What is LIQUID GRID?
Liquid Grid is an event sequencer, ready to talk to your synthesizer, drum machine or software plugin via MIDI, and eventually any other protocol under the sun. How about a stage light show via DMX? Or genrating visuals in enviroments like Unity Engine or VDMX via the OSC protocol? Its all the same to Liquid Grid!
How does it do that differently to any other sequencer?
Liquid Grid takes each and every event (say, a note of music or a change to a parameter) and gives it its own expression of time to exist within.
Every note has access to the state of every other note within the sequence and thus creates a fractal network of time within space, an incredibly powerful concept that is in every way musical.
How are you going to build this?
Development has been moving forward for the past five years entirely in Pure Data, an incredible tool for building data flow applications. Now making use of the recently released Ofelia library work has also begun on the visual elements of the Liquid Grid software.
Once the neccisary elements are ready, Liquid Grid is ready to port to the Raspberry Pi , a very low profile computer that is perfect for prototyping standalone computing hardware.
So why do you need $10,000?
The purpose of this funding campaign is to raise awareness of this idea, gauge interest and pull in the resources needed to bring this software protoype into a fully functioning hardware prototype.
The $10,000 goal is the finacial support that can keep the engines running to pay for the materials, human resources and other expenses that directly feed into the development process.
Protoyping can get very expensive quickly, and for a project this size we will require more than one pair of hands to bring Liquid Grid to the final product stage.
So what do i get for my support?
Once funding for development is reached and the prototype build is complete, we will be releasing all the Pure Data code and hardware designs as opensource .
This means anyone with the curosity and skill to build their own iteration of, or expand apon, the Liquid Grid design, you are free to do so!
You are also first in line for beta testing Liquid Grid, so if you are savy in Pure Data , make electronic music, design stage lighting or visuals, or in anyway interested in controlling the shape of time, this is your chance to get involved and grow with the Liquid Grid project!
So if your giving this away for free, how are you going sell a product?
POLR Technologies believes in the princible that ideas belong to humanity, the tangible realisation of these ideas however is a trade of currency for convenience.
I will be building these machines ready to jam bangers on, and that i can sell for a price without being compromised by the opensource freedom of the design.
In fact, once this is in the hands of the technically creative communities, eveyone contributing to this frame work adds value to the product as a whole, its a win from every angle!
And for the muscisians, artist, producers, djs and vjs; for a long while ive been doing the hard nerdy work so you don't have to! The best most creative technology is invisible, you shouldn't have to know how it works to make use of it as a tool of creation.
In fact, as a non-traditional musician, im my own perfect customer as this is the machine ive been waiting for to get back to making music without technical restraint and interference!
We all have different needs for the technology we use, why lock that down with patents and exclusivity when we are all more than able to decide for ourselves what is fair exchange for the convenience of having our needs met directly?
