Help Me Create and Publish My Children's Book

Donation protected
Let me start by officially introducing myself, my name is Brittany, and for the past four years I have been an early childhood educator in an inner city school district in New Jersey. I am currently receiving my Masters of Education in Teacher Leadership as well as my ESL certification (English as a Second Language). I received my Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education as well as Liberal Studies: English and Writing. Since I enrolled in my undergrad degree I knew I wanted to be not just a teacher, but an author as well. Growing up as an only child I spent most of my time reading books to create my own adventures. Unfortunately, looking back I have realized that most of the characters in those books did not look like me. I am hoping to work alongside the many authors who have since trail blazed the way, making it a point to create diversity.

Some of you may have seen my Twitter thread that went viral overnight. In it, I included a thread of some of the children's books I've come across over the years that help prompt discussions of race, racism, and diversity. In that thread, you might have also seen me mention that I plan to create and release children's books of my own in the near future. This is where I am asking for your help.

According to Mill City Press, self-publishing a children's book can cost up to $10,000 once you factor in illustration, color printing, editing, and the number of books to be published (amongst other things). I am asking for your help in creating these funds so that I too can be added to my own thread of children's book that display diversity. All proceeds will go towards the making of my book(s).

As many of you know, representation matters, whether that be on television, in the magazines, or in a classroom. As an educator myself, I know the importance of this, and my school district has helped us meet those needs. My plan is that my books will benefit all children, but especially children of color and Black children as they will be able to see themselves in literature. I want for my books to help teach not just acceptance, but promote self-confidence as well.

While I do not expect to reach these goals overnight, I hope that over the next few months we can help pave the way for a new author! Your continued support means the world to me, as this has been a lifelong dream of mine that I would like to see come to fruition.

Forever grateful for your help.
