From the first moment I exited my first social work class, I knew that it was the field for me. The two years I spent being a part of the BSW program at Hunter College has only strengthened my motivation to obtain a graduate degree. With an MSW degree, I will be able to provide counseling/therapy and eventually I hope to start my own practice.
Being in the field of social work has been an extremely rewarding experience. Supporting those in need has always been a personal mission of mine. In graduate school, I've been learning and practicing the tools needed to do this important work. Obtaining my degree at NYU is one of the best decisions I have ever made. Though tuition is costly, the education I am getting is worth every single penny. My teachers are incredibly knowledgeable and my internship has taught me more in 4 months than my BSW did in 2 years.
Throughout the 2 years of learning for my BSW, I attended classes, had an internship, and worked 2 jobs all in the hopes of obtaining a master's degree in social work. I managed to save up quite a bit of money towards tuition during that time, as my big motivator was to not become a slave to education loans. I managed to obtain scholarships to offset some of the costs, but unfortunately, I'm still missing several thousand.
During these trying times of COVID-19, social workers are needed now more than ever. I am obtaining a graduate degree in the hopes of lending a hand in repairing the chaos that has ensued due to this global pandemic.
The great news is that I AM ALMOST THERE! I just need a little more help to make my dreams a reality.
For transparency, here is the breakdown of my tuition costs:
MSW Degree: $48,380
Total of scholarships received: $27,880
Total I have saved up: $3,810
Remaining balance: $16,690
