Help Mazie, a Navajo Elder, Recover from Surgery

Jerry and Mazie Nelson, two beloved Navajo elders, need our help.
Jerry Nelson is a Native American church leader of the Navajo community who graciously welcomed me and my friend into a sacred ceremony last month on their reservation. The ceremony included 20 of Jerry’s family members and close friends, and with Jerry’s lead, they accepted us into their family. Given the tragic history between Anglos (white people) and Native Americans, this was such a meaningful gesture, and it shows how big Jerry’s heart is. This family has deep love and compassion for all humans. They honor their tradition and their past and demonstrate how to move forward together as a family.
Jerry told me today that his wife Mazie had to be rushed into surgery when she was unable to speak and they ended up finding blood in her brain. They had to put holes into her skull to drain the blood and water that pooled there. Thankfully, the surgery went well and now Mazie is recovering in a big hospital where she is under good medical care. Just before this incident Mazie had been away from home for weeks taking caring for her disabled granddaughter. She too is a powerful force of love and healing in their family, and now she needs our help. I created this GoFundMe to raise money to help with expenses that occur from this including medicine, transportation, food and hotels, as they are in a hospital far from home.
Mazie and Jerry are so generous in their time and love and are such strong pillars in their community. They never ask for anything, they only give. As a new part of their family, I want to help make sure they are comfortable as Mazie recovers.
Mazie and Jerry do not have access to a lot of resources, so any amount of money raised here really goes a long way. Please also send your prayers and blessings for Mazie to have a successful and speedy recovery.
