Help Max get a Diabetic Alert Dog

Donation protected
In January of 2017, Max was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes means that beta cells (that make insulin) attack and kill off each other. Without beta cells, there is no insulin, thus making this a life threatening disease. We need insulin in our bodies to manage our blood sugar.

Since his diagnosis, he has used a CGM (Continuous Glucose Monitor) to help him manage his blood sugars, but due to technology glitches, it seems to work only half the time. Max has ASD (austism spectrum disorder) and this makes it even more difficult for him (and us) to help him manage both high and low blood sugars, since Max needs help in knowing how to treat himself when low.

Max is getting older now and although we don't know what his future holds as far as how independent he will be, we do want him to be safe and feel confident as he ventures into the world. Having a D.A.D (diabetic alert dog) would help him be safe as well be a wonderful companion.

As you can see from the pictures below, Max loves dogs! This is Max one year before he was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes with our dog, Joey. (Joey is a wonderful dog but doesn't have the right temperement to be a service dog.)  Also prior to his diagnosis, Max volunteered at a dog shelter where he would play with dogs. They loved Max and instantly bonded with him, and vice versa. It was as though Someone was telling us that dogs would be a helpmate in Max's future.

We need $15,000 for Max's service dog and training, and $2,500 as a deposit to
get the process started. We are hoping Max can have him dog within the next couple of years. We would love it if you could help Max get his new friend and helpmate! Please share this fundraiser for anyone who you think might help.

We appreciate all and whatever you can do. Thanks for helping make Max's dream come true!
