Matthew... "Matty B" is a precious 6 year old and has cancer. He was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) and is in for the fight of his young life!! What is Leukemia
Having received his first dose of chemotherapy on Wednesday, Matty has began life saving treatment that will consume the next 2 to 3 years of his and his family's life. Living in Las Vegas, Matty's mom, Mariella, is a stay at home mom for Matty and Samantha, his 13 year old sister. His dad, Eric, born and raised in Las Vegas, is in law enforcement and frequently puts in 12 to 16 hour days to support his family.
Prior to this terrible blood cancer, Matthew was working very hard in Kindergarten and thriving with a lot of support from family and teachers as he also has Autism. His Autism means that he works very hard to developing his language skills, handle sensory overload, and process the environment around him- chemotherapy is a lot for any child to endure, so much so for little Matty. His ABA therapy may need to be put on hold while he is receiving chemotherapy over the next 6 months. Additionally, Matty was diagnosed at birth with Ocular Albinism with a nystagmus which means he has very limited vision and a mane of beautiful blond curls. Only 6 years old and he has been dealt many life challenges that, as a parent, is heartbreaking to see your little one struggle through.

Blood cancer can be very expensive to treat; Averaging $156,000 in the 1st year of treatment. The 3 years following diagnosis can range to over $800,000 for Acute Leukemia (source Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Milliman Research report).

Currently, Matty is in Summerlin hospital and is in the 1st of 5 phases of cancer treatment. He is currently in the Induction phase which is the process of killing the cancer cells in his bone marrow.
He has a love of sea creatures and music which will hopefully help to take his mind of the pokes and pain during this 28 day phase of treatment.
Next will be 4 weeks of the Consolidation phase... more to follow on that.
I am Matty's Aunt, Zana, and will be helping to communicate updates on Matty.
